Gaijin Gunpla

Just when hope was lost.

As the pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the world and it seemed like all hope of Gunpla was lost. After more than half a year, these made their way to my door.

That’s a long time without new Gunpla. I was starting to feel like I was too far removed from the hobby to really know what was happening in Gunpla land. I had looked to other things to occupy my time and thoughts.

P.S. (pun intended) It’s awesome!

But I have kits again! New(ish) ones! This post is for a First Look at the HG RX-78-2 Gundam(Beyond Global) which released back in June.

Yes, I’m aware that this isn’t the first look at this kit for many readers out there but for the sake of consistency, I’ll be doing First Look unboxing posts for all kits I’m able to get a hold of.

The Beyond Global RX is part of Bandai’s celebration of the 40th anniversary of Gunpla and looks to be what we can also expect to see with the PG Unleashed Gundam which arrives in December. I’m really hoping that arrives to me in December but for now post to Australia from Japan has just started moving again and only smaller boxes. Hopefully things change in the next month and a half.

I’m not normally one for HG kits now but when I saw the promo shots for the Beyond Global kit I wanted to try my hand at it.

Despite the claims of new articulation it still fits into the thin standard HG box.

There are five runners for armour parts and three for the frame.

And only one sticker.

Of course, the standard beam sabre runner is here.

Wait, what was that?

SB-13?! They go up to 13 now?

I’m glad to see that all runners in the box are new and designated as ‘Beyond Global’.

This kit looks like it will be a quick fun build.

Not sure when I’ll tackle it because there’s a PS5, I mean, an RG and MG kit that have also just arrived.

(just for fun, take a look at this box comparison shot I took.)
