Gaijin Gunpla

Gunpla is still On Hold for me, it seems. That last post was written four months ago and since then I haven’t built anything. I’m going crazy.

I do have a backlog that should keep me occupied, however, it just so happens that I moved eight weeks ago or so and that backlog is still packed up in boxes in the garage. I’m still busy unpacking the boxes listed by she-who-must-be-obeyed as the priority stuff.

A drought of four months is a long time and like with anything, the longer you go without something the less you feel inclined towards it. Usually it takes some kind of nudge or boot to the backside to kickstart things again.

This is that kick to my backside!

Look at that thing!

The call this the PG Unleashed RX-78-2 Gundam and my, oh my, does Grampy Gundam look better than ever.

The tag line on that banner image can be translated as ‘Gunpla of the present and the future joined together’ and it definitely looks like it. There is a lot of information on this kit on Bandai’s site so do check it out for a real proper presentation but I’ll still wow you with some things right here. Like the Evolution Link feature.

One phase links to the next until, at Phase 5, you have this monster. Crazy!

Bandai has come on strong with their most recent Perfect Grade kits like the Unicorn and the Exia, which my little guy uses as a night light, and the Unleashed RX-78-2 looks to be along the same lines and will surely blow some minds.

That Beam Saber is an LED!

Bring on December!

And bring some airplanes to Australia because I need my stuff!

How has everyone out there fared during the crazy year that is 2020?

Hey Syd, I feel for you. We moved about 5 weeks ago and i elected to keep my hobby items in my office, floor to ceiling covered in boxes. We also decided to revamp my working situation so all my old furniture went to my sons. It will probably be at least 6 months before I can start modelling again. In the meantime, my backlog just keeps growing…

PG unleashed looks awesome. They are including mixed media out of the box like metal parts, photo etch, plated parts in multiple colours. Unfortunately, they will probably go with stickers for the markings and not waterslides. I do find myself wondering if I should paint this beast. What do you think? Paint or straight build?

      Paint it Darth!! 😉

Paying a premium price without the inclusion of water slides do really sucks. It seems like Bandai went for stickers more often in the recent kits, either big or small release. I do not mind buying water slide decals as an alternative if they are making one..

I just discovered that it will come with fixed pose hands. I’m so angry because everything else is so good…

    Hey Syd,
glad to see you around again. The hiatus was so long I almost started to believe you had to – or wanted to – abandon the hobby.
This new iteration of the granddaddy is truly awesome, it might be my first PG ever, though this and the MGEX Unicorn are two hard pills to swallow, price-wise.
I hope I can get both, but I’m not sure I can afford it.
