Gaijin Gunpla

Yup. You read that huge block of white letters correctly. After 5 years in one place I am moving house, and somewhat unexpectedly at that. What does this mean for me? It means I’ve gotta get my butt moving and start packing. What does it mean for you Gunplars out there? It means you can get some free stuff.

Unfortunately, I can’t possibly take everything and much will be left behind, tossed out, or in this case, given away. Originally I had planned to do something to commemorate the Gaijin Gunpla Facebook Page reaching 2,000 Likes, similar to what I did a couple years ago when I hit the 1,000 Likes mark. I even made a preview image and everything.

But, alas, the best laid (or in my case, half-assed) plans oft go awry. But there’s still stuff going to be given away, such as:

Some Gundam Converge and Standart

I picked up these guys in various places over the years and never got around to opening them. I’m not naive enough to think that I’ll open them up in my new place so instead, as they are still new, I’ll give them away.

Also being given out…

Gundam DVDs

Happened upon these during my travels in Japan and, just like the Converge stuff, never got around to opening them. I’m sure there is someone out there who can make better use of these than I. (I think I’ve a third DVD somewhere. If/when I find it I’ll include with these two.)

But there is a main prize, which just so happens to be…

PG Astray Blue Frame

I often can’t resist the Bandai Premium stuff and obviously I couldn’t resist the PG Blue Frame as evidenced by the picture. Likely I won’t be able to build it for some time, but it’s too big to pack around while waiting, so I’m giving it to some lucky Gunplar.

There is also more stuff to be given out once I go through a few more boxes/closets. Basically if I find something that I haven’t opened and/or it’s in good condition, and I know I won’t use it in my new place, it’s up for grabs. So there is likely to be some Gundam kits and other goodies being given away.

So here are the details on how this impromptu contest will work. Despite recently not being able to write as often as I would like on Gaijin-Gunpla.com (I’m moving, remember) I still am looking for ways to improve the site and the experience of those who graciously come pay me a visit here. So what I’m looking for is some input from you guys. In the comments below, just answer these three questions:

1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

That’s it. Just write your answers in the comments on this post and come moving day, likely the end of April, I’ll choose winners at random and give away any good stuff I can’t take with me.

Oh, and as this was originally going to be a Facebook thing, I’ll be posting a link to this contest on the Gaijin Gunpla Facebook page so if you have Facebook please give it a like. I’m interested in seeing just how many Likes I can get. Cause I’m selfish like that.

Good luck everybody! Including me, because I’m going to need it. 😉

Moving after five years? wow milestone. Good luck on it all and hope everything in your family is going swell.
As for the things that i like about Gaijin Gunpla, its my go to source for a written review of a gunpla kit. sure i could go to Hacchaka or Schizophonic9, yet i like to know what im reading and your reviews have given me thought as to what to purchase.
What i dont like about the site is that it gives me an error 404 “Banwidth exceeded” message so that is frustrating but thats pretty much it.
What i would like to see is the reviews or W.i.p to be more consistent such as weekly or bi weekly. other than that great site

    1) probably my favorite thing about Gaijin Gunpla is that for some reason the posts seem very relatable in the experiences I’ve had as a modeler. I always see these other sites that just do these incredible things but their WIPs aren’t too detailed but here even when I think, “wow I would never be able to do that..” when I look at the WIP posts it becomes more relatable and makes me think, “I just need to spend some time and effort”

    2) I think the only thing I don’t like is the slow posting. But then again, I realize that every has things they need to attend to (work, family, etc.), in your case one big thing is the move, so it’s all good 😀

    3) One thing I would love to see is a way to more easily get to past WIP. Maybe a separate tab for the builds versus the mods and painting process.

  3. yun says:

    1. Your honest opinion about the kit. I really appreciate when you let us know when Bandai do something wrong or just plain lazy. This safe me a lot of money from buying bad kit.

    2. The long waiting period when there are no update (I understand that life just got in a way)

    3. More HGUC or Kotobukiya orother brand kits review. 🙂

  4. Pshyga says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I like the website design, the way you describe the detail of whole things when WIP post and review, with a joke, and addition about your family, like your wife and your daughter.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Too much gap time between post, I always open this website everyday to check if there’s a new post or not.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I don’t have any tought about additional feature/segments or anything. I just hoping you can post more often, but yeah you got your activity like job and your family so you can’t post so often. So I can’t force you to post more often.

    Btw Godspeed Syd

    1) What I like about Gaijin Gunpla (GG)
The main thing I enjoy about GG is how well organised this website is and I especially enjoy reading your kit reviews, which are relatively detailed. I first stumbled upon this site when I was searching for reviews on the MG sword impulse, which so happened to be the first kit I bought that started my collection. I appreciate how GG appears to be one of the most objective and professional kit reviewers that I’ve come across. It’s nice to have fairly regular updates with above decent photos of the build process of Gundam kits. One of my favourite segments is also your gallery of completed kits!

    2) What I dislike about GG
It’s actually hard to come up with reasonable points on what I dislike about GG. Perhaps I do wish that this site would be updated more often to quench my thirst for more updates on Gundam kits! But of course it is completely understandable that Syd has his own personal life and it’ll be unfair to demand more than what Syd has shared throughout these years. Another minor issue is with the way some of the kits are posed standing. For example, the legs and feet of the MS aren’t exactly balanced or the MS may be a little lopsided/slouched. Nevertheless, these are just minor qualms!

    3) What other features should be added/removed?
Perhaps it will be nice to install a chat box on a side panel for fellow gunplars to talk about anything Gundam-related! Also, would it be possible to embed latest videos from hobbylink.tv so that viewers can conveniently check up videos on recent kit releases?

That’s all from me, and I hope those comments would be useful!

  6. Michael Wang says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The layout is pretty nice. I like the WIP which give us a look into the build of the kits.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Not enough new content, but I get that you’re busy and can’t always post often.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
New announcements for kits and other Gunpla news maybe.

  7. Jorell says:

    1. I like everything that you post related to gunplas. Specially the MGs
    2. Nothing in particular actually
    3. Video reviews, more basic and advance tutorials. That’s all.

  8. Brian says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Among many things, I like two things the best: Readers’ Submissions and your spray paint Gunpla gallery. Readers’ Submission allows us to showcase our work, receive feedbacks, and help each other with tips, constructive criticisms, and paint ideas. Second, the fact that you show your gallery of spray-painted Gunpla is always inspiring; to know that such masterpiece is always possible outside airbrushing lets me know that best results aren’t always with best equipments (not trashing airbrushing, btw).

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The fact that it seems to exceed bandwidth too much. Kudos to you for getting visitors, but hoping you can upgrade your site to tolerate more visits! 😉

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
This might sound like a long shot, but how about video reviews done by Syd himself? I like pictures, but I don’t like waiting for new episodes of Hobbylink TV to feature the new kit for a short bit.

Take care and best of luck in your new home!

  9. Moving stuff can be frustrating as a modeller. Especially those with lots of models.
    Wish you luck Syd.

    As for your questions: hmm.

    1) Honest review on kits & comparison between similar. You build kits and give thoughts straight build out of box & compare with similar model. Thats what I like the most, you gave me some hint on which kits to buy in comparison. Big thank you.

    2) The hardest question. Sometimes your blog gets jammed by traffic.

    3) Build offs may be? I’d like to do some.

P/S: Can you show us how do you display your Gunpla at home? or it this case, how do you plan to display your Gunpla in your new home? =]

  10. Jonathan says:

    1) Gaijin gunpla has seriously helped me with a ton of my builds, the pictures being #1 big help to this site.
    2) Huge amount of time between post ( understand you’re busy though)
    3) videos!!! would be nice but hobbylink TV does have videos as well.

Good luck with your new home!!!!

  11. glemnoir says:

I liked the detailed reviews, and how you put down your personal preferences in kits. Pro and con, difficulty that you encounter while buliding kits.

If its possible, I would like to see some tutorials and discussion on gaijin gunpla, that will be great for those still learning in gunpla.

Well, maybe a faster update between poses?

  12. Balgus says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I really like the reviews and the quality of the photos.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I wish you did HG reviews again. You’ve seemed to have stopped doing them.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I’d like to see more WIPs for customs. And contests are always awesome 😉

  13. DarthGunpla says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The honest and objetive reviews with lots of photos

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Not sure… Sometimes the site do not load here, but I think the problem is with my connection

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I like to see your displays in the new home haha

  14. Jesreel II Andales Gallardo says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I love how the website is clean and easy to Navigate. and i love the links below to make looking for stuff easier to locate
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Well i haven’t explored the whole website yet but it would be nice to have your own video review that is not linked to Hobbylink Tv. it would be a nice personal touch to see a video review of the kit by you Syd as i and my friends love to see your current reviews in picture and text form. But a video review would be even better.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Maybe a Calendar on Gunpla or plamo releases in the near future. Otherwise the website is fine as it is. keep up the good work.

Many blessings to you Syd and Good luck at your new house 🙂

  15. Trevor says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

All the posts of you building the kits. I really enjoy reading what you have to say as you build the kit, and also the pictures that you take as you build them are always something I look forward to going through. I like how you also reply to a few of the comments, too! Keep up the awesome work Syd!

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

There’s honestly not a lot I can say here. There’s not a lot of things I don’t like here, and a lot of things I can already say I do. However if i really have to say something, I would say the lack of reviews of non-master grade kits. I like master grades as much as the next person, but I would love to hear your thoughts on some of the recent SDs and high grades (especially now with the All Gundam Project) (i liked the thunderbolt post).

3)What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

It would be great to see more reader submissions! Not exactly sure how those work, but it would be great to see more of those. 🙂

Good luck on your move, Syd. Hope it goes smoothly!

  16. Irvin says:

1)What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
What I most like about Gaijin Gunpla are the WIPs. The whole documenting and reviewing a kit as you go gives some great insight to someone who plans on buying and building it. Lets us know what to look out for and how to fix it ahead of time, avoiding potential disasters.
2)What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
There aren’t enough Life in Japan updates, as someone who doesn’t live there it’s cool to read about a foreigners adventures in Japan.
3)What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I can’t really think of anything other than maybe doing an occasional non-Gunpla kit.

Moving is a big deal, and to top it off you have to get rid of such cool stuff. Good luck to you Syd.

  17. 1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Detailed step-by-step construction. I haven’t seen any review site that does that. You show us those in depth details that are needed to guide us when we are about to build our own. It’s a helpful because we’ll be wary on the things we need to lookout for.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Maybe the lack of tutorials perhaps? But that’s inline with my answer to #3.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Tutorials. I know fixes are being show here and there, but a dedicated tutorial section will be appreciated. Maybe you can also show your tools and paints you use. Besides those, I really can’t think of anything because Gunpla + GG is an enough win for me.

  18. Amirul says:

    1)Gundam!
    2)Not enough Gundam!
    3)More Gundam!

Anyways, hope everything goes smoothly and all the best to you and your family! 😀

  19. CharacterandDigits says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I really enjoy the simple, casual, and humorous style of your reviews, as well as your intuitive grading system. Getting a candid opinion from an “industry insider” is actually a refreshing change from the average joe type of reviews found elsewhere.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Infrequent updates and reviews, lack of video content.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I know you’re already having enough trouble getting written content put out regularly, but the only thing I could think to add would be some sort of videos. Not necessarily reviews, but maybe tutorials, design ideas, or in depth looks at both new kits and customs that you’ve done.

  20. gk says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I enjoy reading about your thoughts throughout the whole process of assembling each kit! Besides Gaijin Gunpla was one of the first gunpla review websites I came across. Also love the side post every now on then on your love for SNSD 😛

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Takes awhile between each post review, that’s about it (:

3)What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

Maybe if possible, shots of your completed/painted models!

    Take care!

  21. redme123 says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I love the gundam reviews and WIP posts. I also like how you actually take the time to respond to our questions and comments, which makes this site much more interactive.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Honestly, I don’t have much I don’t like about the site. Of course, I would love to see more frequents posts, but then again, I understand that writing posts take time. Perhaps the thing that bothers me the most is the bandwidth limit.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

It would be interesting to see more custom gundam kits, either by you or from reader submissions. I also think there should be a bit more reviews on non-master grade models, especially from the HG line. HG gundams have been getting better and better, and I think they are definitely worth taking closer a look at

  22. Francis says:

    1) I enjoy the reviews which help to inform me on which gunpla I should purchase. I also like the humor found in the posts.

    2) I don’t like how several older kits have not been reviewed and how far between the updates are, but I do understand that you are quite busy.

    3) I would like to see additional reviews of older kits as well as the new ones. Also, more painted kits!

  23. Josh says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

You’re reviews are great. I love how you explain your reviews and have a nice detailed WIP segment. Your grading scale and presentation (the bar graph) are really neat and easy to fall along with as well.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Hmmm hard one. The time between posts but that is understandable why you don’t post as often. Maybe my biggest beef is that… you don’t review anything other than MG and RG 😛

    3) What changes?

MORE MODELS OTHER THAN GUNPLA. I would love to see other model kits other than Gunpla. I’ve been trying to find good kits so I did not burn out on gundams.

  24. Archer says:

Wow it’s already three years since I visit your website and now you’re moving, I hope it’s nice place and good luck to your journey in new house, when you’re moving to new place something interesting bound to happen(trust me, I also get that adventurer like feeling when I’m moved for studying for the first time)
well this is your answer for those questionnaire
    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
you posted about Gundam/Gunpla which is happen to be my Hobby and Girl’s Generation which is happen to be my idol, News about Gundam/Gunpla or everything related to it and event in japan plus Girl’s Generation is the reason I visited your website, and oh yeah your website is like perfect base for me to learn english in proper way through simple things like comment or just reading it, yup I can learn and have fun in the same time which is great
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I think Modeller in up comment already said this, but yeah too much gap of time that you posted, about this “unlikeness” I think the solution is to write or in this case type something, an event that you think “normal”, for us is probably not normal since you yourself work in HLJ or another words Base camp of Gunpla before they delivered to our hands, like which Model of Gunpla that is popular in 1 month or something like that..in any case just write something, you don’t have to worry about the lack comments coz sometime I just read your post and didn’t give a comment because when my internet connection is bad or terribly bad leave alone a comment opening a page is quite hard (for this I’m terribly sorry) this is just suggestion though
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I think I already mention that in 2 question, sorry in this question I can’t give you and answer because I’m already satisfied with everything in this website, well copying your words, If not bad then you don’t have to change it

Well in the end Good Luck and Have a lot of Fun when you’re moving in new place

    • Archer says:

Oh yeah Finally I have an answer questionnaire to the third, I have this wonderful idea to help you customize your web, Can you make a bar content that followed when I scroll down the mouse ??, Well how can I say his.. it’s like facebook when you scroll down to see the comment the tab bar following in the top of the page.. so when I’m want to see another review I just click it without having to scroll the page up, I know there’s a button that can automatically bring me to the top page but I guess having a tab bar that follow when I have to scroll down is quite effective

  25. zetaone71 says:

What do I like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Its your passion for Gunpla, your detailed builds, and reviews.
What do I not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Nothing at all.
    What changes?
Maybe add tutorials on painting, and detailing kits.

  26. Zeta Newtype says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Girls Generation. They are Hotties.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Not enough Girls Generation. What’s the Gundam crap you keep going on about? We need more HOTTIES.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I think it’s pretty obvious by now I would like to see way more hotties, and by hotties….I of course mean….Girls Generation. In fact the whole website should be rededicated to these hotties. GG should stand for Girls Generation, not Gaijin Gunpla. I mean I suppose this gunpla stuff is pretty cool…but C’MON. THEY ARE SOOOO HOT.

    😛

  27. davecute4u says:

First of all Congrats for moving in a bigger space and it means you are famous! (I envy you! ^_^)

    Here are my share

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The Humor- specially that what you did with delta plus MG review that keeps on planking hehehehe.
Personal Touches- you show compassion with your review
Honesty- I don’t see any of your reviews sugarcoated

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The intervals inbetween / per section. Kindly give the review in one whole shot.

Some reviews needs balance (or it is just me). If you can read some of the comments on MG sazabi Tied with MG sword Impulse’s score in which a MG Sazabi have more better technology (since it is bulky and it has some flaws). Some may not accept that kind of scoring.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

Can you do it per grade like not combining the review on HG and the RG. Rg will always prevail in a sense

If you can show some guidelines in scoring the kits so that (evenif it is your personal preference)others will not doubt and some may say you only prefer a certain line.

I hope this would help and Good luck on your new site and keep us posted of your new address ^_^

  28. Brad says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I think the kit reviews are really well done and the accompanying photos are clean. You do a really good job with those.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
That I don’t have the time or skill to make all these great kits.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla? More Life in Japan. The girls are cute and all, but more about what it’s like to live there.

Keep up the good work and good luck with the move.

    hmm…bro,this are my answers:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

-Your reviews,of course! Simple, but full with infos.really helpful.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

-You need to review more HGs.Well, you did review a lot of MGs, but your HG and SD kits review are too little.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

-Hmm…It’s hard to answer this question, but I think it would be great if you post more frequently and review more hg and sd kits.sd kits would be great for Gai-Gun Jr!

  31. Paul says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Before I buy gunpla kits I always get a good review first. There are lots of blog or sites that will give you review about the kits but there is something special about Gaijin Gunpla / Syd’s review it is more detailed and he is also giving tips for his fellow Gunplars. And the best of all I can also see the ratings of all the kits that already has a review and it is easier for me to choose if that kit is really worth buying.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Nothing. Gaijin Gunpla is absolutely amazing. Thanks Syd you’re the best.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

You can also add video tutorials just like what you do in hobbylink.tv and you may also have a podcast for this so it will be easier for us to upload on our mobile device for an easy reference wherever you go.

  32. Paul08 says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Detailed WIPS and Reviews. Clean website layout.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Sometimes in reviews you have some personal opinions on the score. Another is that not all kits you build have reviews. (but I understand why 😀 )
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
So far I like everything. Keep the design updated to modern trends!

Have fun and good luck packing! Hoping to see more builds and reviews from you in the future

  33. random says:

    I remember the first time I stumbled upon your Gaijin Gunpla site regarding the RG Strike Freedom review;
that review was like the comeback-cue for me to gunpla, and for that I’m definitely grateful. For the tri-questions, here’s my take on them:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    *The minimalist approach and the clean-look of your site is definitely a plus;
*The cohesive style of your review for gunpla kits, it has a neat structure (opening remarks, different sections that tackle different topics such as the ‘Colors’, ‘Weapons’, ‘Articulation’ etc & the summary/conclusion/closing part).

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    *I do have the same idea with the other comments, the gap in time for gunpla posts (although understandably, you’ve got other things to do besides to manage your site);
*The lack of 1/144 kit reviews (given the RG scale is quite new, however, there are a lot of great 1/144 kits out there that you can probably review for us – just my 2 cents (I’m a 1/144 scale guy :D))

3 )What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    *IMHO, features for 1/144 scale reviews could be added (they can act like filler reviews in-between your MG reviews);
    *Embedded links or section to HL TV videos if no dedicated video section for Gaijin Gunpla is possible;
*Note-worthy gunpla news (such as kit schedules, possible kits to be seen in the future; something like that :D)

Good luck Syd to your future endeavors!

  34. Ang WX says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

You are incredibly dedicated to Gundam.

The really detailed WIP posts and reviews are really really good and give ALOT more information as compared to other sites. The site is organised well into sections, with gunpla in grades etc. Also, the fact that you have a guideline for reviews and stuff like that is really neat and gives us a means to compare models.

Also, the fact that you review P Bandai stuff before i can get em locally so i know what I’m paying premium for.

In addition, how you do HLJ TV which is really cool and got me into buying stuff from HLJ 😛

All in all, there are too many things awesome here but if i had to choose it would boil down to informative and dedication.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

… There isn’t anything to write here >_<
but hmm maybe if i nitpick, it would be that you removed the HG Review section.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I would like to see just a small score and satisfaction levels while building 😛

but i understand that for the HG Review and Score you haven't build enough to compare.. and are quite busy… so this isn't much of a concern :/

P.s. i dont know what others are saying about the Lag time between posts. I mean you DO have a (great) job and a life outside this website. You post new kit reviews soon after release which is already great

KEEP IT UP GAIJIN GUNPLA 😀

  35. Alden says:

1.) what do i like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – Much details and such awesome reviews 🙂
2.) what i dont like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – I hate nothing, oh wait….. um… yup nothing haha
3.)What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    – more tutorials 🙂 specially for painting kits 🙂 what to do and what not to do that kind of things haha 🙂

Goodluck packing, have a safe trip 🙂 God Bless

  36. heru prayogo says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
i really like your reviewing style syd, informatife, and also enternaining. before deciding to buy a gunpla, i always do some serious research(because gunpla is VERY expensive here in indonesia)and thanks to your review i always get the kit that i wanted. oh and the last thing i like about this site is the builds session! i really love that!

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
lacks of older kit reviews? its hard to find a good review of some older kits (dalong is good but i need your reviewing style syd!) hahaha

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    so far so good syd!

    good luck with the packaging!
p.s excuse me with the bad english :p

  37. Qing Wen says:

    1) I like that the reviews are detailed in that it comes in different section. Eg, weapons, posing, built design, etc.

    2) The pictures of the kit being review can be a little small.

    3) It would be interesting to see an occasion review of your take on kits with custom colour schemes and builts.

  38. Seppe says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
greatly detailed reviews and tutorials. Your reviews have
definitely influenced my decision for buying or not buying
    some kit’s.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
There isn’t really anything I don’t like about Gaijin Gunpla.
Maybe some long wait periods between post, but that’s because
of your personal life. So it’s understandable.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Definitely more tutorials would be great 😀

  39. Night_Falcon says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

What I really like is how organized the posts are, the reviews are separated from WIPs and unbiased, the pictures are uber-clear, and the humor. Straight-to-the-point descriptions, tips for others, and the bar graphs.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

What I don’t like is nothing. This is absolutely amazing.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

For the changes, maybe keep up the good work. So far this website is great.

  40. Patrick P says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the layout (simple, yet very nice) and how you write those posts. The reviews and galleries are nicely laid out, making it easy to see them. The reviews are also detailed, which really helped me when selecting some new kits to buy

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
First, since I don’t really like idols very much, I disliked your post about Girls’ Generation (I only treat them as a hindrance though. Next, most of your kits are posed standing, which most reviewers did. I’ve heard some kit actually look better with action base (especially that Delta Plus, it will remove his main weakness) and you never reviewed it

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I don’t really think there are things that needs to be added for now, but I think it would be nice if you make your own little tutorial or at least share some specific and/or favourite tricks of yours and why you preferred to use that trick

  41. Duncan says:

Personally i like your no bullshit approach to gundam reviews , you tell it like it is and ive found your vedicts pretty spot on.
As for dislikes i think your reviews should possibly show something different than the hobbylink tv episodes as you aften just repeat the same thing on both. I am sure most of us watch both ,maybe use your site to show more of the painting/customisation side of it and hobbylink tv for the straight builds. Obviously i realise its a big drain on your time and i like the WIP pictures that you don’t have the time for on hobbylink tv.
would also love to see more reviews of the gentai kits , comparing them to the original versions and if they are worth getting , maybe an index of all the suits that are available and the best version to get.
Regardless you still have a great site and one of the three i frequently visit , as there are far too few sites for gunpla that are in English that are any good.

  42. Dingo says:

    1. You. Yes, you, Syd!! 🙂 You make this post personal and likable, just by being yourself. Some of the comments above already listed out most of the good stuff of this blog, but I think those point would not happen if you are not who you are (my head’s spinning).

    2. Again, people have pointed out some not so good of this blog. But to be honest, I did not feel they were that great an impact on how I enjoy this blog (I used feedly, so I visit your blog when you have something new).

    3. Reviewing kits is good for a start, but I really love to see you up your game and doing some more mod wip. 🙂 I really enjoyed the PG Strike Freedom, “Iron Man” Rezel, and the kit bashing Stein.

  43. JP says:

Syd, we all know that this is a time consuming hobby, but you are doing a great job informing us about the Gunpla world despite being a father and your HLJ job. Thanks for that.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Your way of reviewing and describing the kits. I bought a lot of Gunpla because of your recommendation and even started the hobby because I have found this site. Your photo skills are really good.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Hard to say, because it’s a very well made site. Sometimes your preferences show in the evaluation of the kits.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
More SD reviews please. Videos of your progress and WIPS.

  44. Michael says:

    1) Great reviews and WIPs – There were some kits I got because you either liked them (Sword Impulse) or didn’t like (Delta Plus), but your thorough reviews and WIPs allowed me to know all the issues beforehand and take measures – my Delta Plus can stand on it’s own because I tightened all the leg joints. Also, a clean and nice design and good navigation

    2) It’s hard to say. Right now the only two minor downsides are about comments.
First, I have to confirm the notifications through e-mail (Doubt there is a way to do that without registration).
Second, if I click the link in notification e-mail, it will take me to the comments straight away, but if this is a WIP article – comments will immediately go down as images start to load, but I doubt you can do something about it, except may be specifying the height of the image in img tag

    3) Once again – I don’t have much suggestions (unlike with HLJ or Hobbylink.tv :p). As I said above making it easier to confirm notifications in comments would be really appreciated. And may be more Life in Japan posts )

    • Michael says:

P.S. And good luck with your move – I have a move coming somewhere this summer and I’ll have to pack a lot of gunpla )

  45. scid says:

wow..u’re moving..so sad u have to drop a few things. So answering ur questions.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The most part I like about this blog is the review on each kit and detailed by each category. Well done on that

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The blog template..maybe try a different template and let the reader vote.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    a. More tutorial..and maybe a video like in gunpla tv.
    b. Try airbrushing and since you work in hlj why not review the vallejo. Recently I bought a set of vallejo paint from hlj but the lack of tutorial on the net I still dont have a round using vallejo in airbrushing.
    c. Do some voting, anything can do. The best MG kit or anything.
    d. Like my no.2 answer do some experiments with the template.

  46. Black Lotus says:

    1) i like the tips posts, the giveaways, and an honest modeller opinions about the kit that you are reviewing
    2) i can’t particularly find something that i don’t like
3)it would be nice to have a chat box and a new category “tutorials” (i know you share all the tech you use on gunpla tv and the wip but it would be nice to find them in a category of their own)

  47. Marco Polo says:

Hi Syd, congrtulations on the move, for whatever reason it is. 🙂 More blessings and gunpla to you and your family. Prayers go out for your Dad and on your move. Now on to business.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I love how you give out tutorials, hints and tips on a build and on how the kit’s engineering works. It just keeps every post so interesting and in-depth.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

A big factor would probably be that the history of the posts aren’t as organized as they should. Its fine that I can see the reviews in a snap by going to the reviews section but how about the WIP posts or any other posts you did for the kit? Maybe you could aggregate the posts per kit as well rather aside from the reviews tab?

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I’d really like to see an aggregated list of posts by kit rather than just the reviews. It just feels more in-depth that way.

Again, more power to you Gai-gun!!!

  48. Aziztance says:

Greetings from finland syd. Hopefully your move goes well, so me and other gunplars can enjoy your kit reviews and wips!

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Your site gives in-depth reviews of gunpla kits and those help me and others make decision about buying the kit. Your custom gunplas also give some inspiration to me as well.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Honestly speaking im not finding anykind of cons from your site, not even slow posting isn’t con for me since you can’t rush art.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Well im not so sure about this one, maybe different plamos in general.

  49. kassad_06 says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
-I like the general layout of the site.
-The detailed reviews and build posts where we see the kit part by part
    -The nice galleries

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
-The occasional hiccups with bandwidth/technical issues/not being able to access the site due to gremlins etc.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    Maybe video WIPs or reviews.

  50. Jiren Wang says:

    1) Gaijin gunpla is like the second coming of gunpla inochi. You have very detailed posts and wips. The kits you post wip for is always new and “COOL”. But honestly, everything about gunpla is “COOL”
    2) If i have to, I guess it will be that some of your posts takes too long.. like you would have wip 3 1 week after wip 2..
    3) i guess you should never stop posting wips. Gunpla Inochi stopped after abit.. please don’t follow his foot steps.
I like how you have a personal website and not a blog. 😉

  51. Leo Panda says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Your reviews and WIP. It has helped me get back into gunpla since a 15 year hiatus. Also what to expect when I am purchasing a kit you had reviewed.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The gap time between post. I regularly visit about 6 sites daily and you are one of them. Maybe you would like to bring on a partner or open up to post from guest gunpla contributors.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla? Tutorial section or tutorial videos. Like in your kick ass youtube show gunpla tv! Which rocks! Or maybe opening it up to tutorials from the gaijin-gunpla community.

  52. Jonas says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
i love the detailed articles about constructing each gunpla. its like knowing each model inside out without owning them. i love the reviews too. the reviews inspired me to get some models; HGUC sinanju, MG heavyarms. the reviews and constructions let me go beyond opening a virtual box and thank you for helping me to make better informed gunpla choices.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
What’s there not to like? there’s just one, if only articles on gunpla were posted everyday, and reviews and construction articles out each day. it’s impossible i know but surely a dream come true.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
more customs, more wonderful paintjobs, and…more reviews! i get so happy when i see a review out on gaijin-gunpla.

  53. Ekos says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – The comprehensive reviews preceded by WIPs, it plays a large role in my choice of MGs.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – Not enough posting about girls generations and your other fields of interest ! I stumbled upon gunpla by crossing from one hobby into another and am always interested in what fellow builders might do in what’s left of their spare time.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
-I’d like to see more readers submissions, and alternate takes on your reviews. I was half disappointed by you build mk2 review, and while it being a 5 years old kit does warrant a lower score, I do not have the old Mk2 and wondered how you would rank it for a first buyer of that kit.

  54. Valstork says:

1)What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
A: I like the rating system you use, its quite fair, also the page layout is really neutral, and to me thats nice.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
A: Maybe it’s not related to this page itself but to your gaming channel… Most of the games you play (mainly when you played battlefield) i don’t like seeing them.
3)What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
A:Probably more contest like this and also… i’d like to see more custom jobs and tips (like the ones you sometimes post on HLJ youtube page).

I hope your move works well to you and your family.

  55. Mike says:

    1. I like the reviews. When I am thinking about getting a new kit and like the gundam build fighters mk-ii it was basically just the 2005 gundam mk-ii. Also your custom builds are pretty awesome as well. 2. I haven’t found anything wrong with the site. But if I find something in the future I’ll let you know. 3.i just recently found the site so I haven’t noticed any changes to it.

  56. Victor Mo says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like to see ur reviews and especially custom/painted build, because you don’t do anything to much complex and we can do it this too! You don’t build every gunpla released, but choice well and we can see how much effort you put in every build.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Slow update and we understand you can’t update with more frequently. I’m waiting for more update of Qubeley+Stein 🙂

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I would love to see more your personal life but in this nerd/gunpla universe. Is good to see something different, like your trips, your SNSD love and other stuffs instead building kits. Maybe you can create this segment in Gaijin Gunpla.

  57. Victor Mo says:

  58. Christian says:

    1. What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – I love the reviews, and I love your WIPs even more, because not only it can give us readers a summary of what to expect when building the Gunpla, but it also helps for those gunplars who would want to make their own painted build on that certain gundam.
    2. What don’t you like about Gaijin Gunpla? (No offense)
    – I can’t find a precise answer for that, but if I were to go with my gut, the first problem I’d say would be the abundance in reviews, mostly on the HGs, because for those gunplars out there who want to practice their skills, such as painted builds, custom builds, and dioramas (there are more, I know), the readers cannot have a specific idea on how they will do it without a review on that certain HG. The second one is bandwidth limit, but we understand that one.
    3. What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    – With that said, I (and probably the readers as well) would like to see more custom painted builds (like your MG Buster, I love that one), more reviews (especially on the HGs), and tutorials, because I want the non-gunplars to catch on with us, and have fun with us in the Gunpla hobby.
Oh, of course, I may be Captain Obvious here that you are moving, but (this goes for you and your family) good luck, don’t leave anything important, and most importantly, stay safe!

  59. Chopper Dave says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like having a gunpla website in English that I can go to and read about the newest kits, and if they are any good or not! It’s a very helpful tool for deciding what kit to buy next. Also, I like the fact that I can ask questions about something you have done, and actually get a reply back from you.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
See, I’m not the kind of person that looks a gift horse in the mouth. I try to think on the positive side and don’t always notice the negative. But if I had to pick something, it would be the infrequent updates. I know that real life does and should take precedent over a website like this, but it would be nice to get some more news, or some more kit build/reviews.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I would love some guides on how to properly paint models, (I have done some simple stuff like my PG S Freedoms frame, or those ugly clear purple parts on the MG X) including stuff like masking, panel lining, waterslide/dry transfer…etc. Even if it is something I already know how to do, seeing someone else’s methodology can be very helpful sometimes.

Anyway, I hope your move goes well, I know moving sucks, especially if you can’t take all your goodies with you, but hang in there!

  60. Mathai says:

What I like? : Probably one of the best Gunpla reviews on the net and love your comprehensive grading system.

What I don’t like?: Page unavailability at certain times and infrequent updates. (I’m not blaming you man, I’m a dad with a 9-5 job so I understand )

Changes?: Not much actually, maybe a better picture gallery plugin for your blog and addition of video reviews or 360 degree videos of the completed kits.

  61. Jonathan says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the reviews with true modeler experience. They aren’t all lifeless and technical with no opinions like some reviewers do.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Probably just that the posts aren’t as frequent as I would like but life and work must come first and of course building takes time!

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Reviews on other scales such as the new HG line and just a greater variety. Maybe some tutorials and such for new people starting with gunpla or some advanced techniques.

  62. mDS64 says:

1.Your honest views, from someone with more build experience
    2.None to be honest
3.Integration with gunpla tv so we can have quick and easy access to see the latest episodes since most of what you do here also ends up on there, and a chat box.

I’ve learnt alot about builds, ideas and what to look out in future kits, and I’m thankful for that, very pleased with your work, keep it up!

  63. Christian says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Detailed reviews in English? Check. WIPs for those who want to familiarize themselves with the model before they get the model? Check. Tips? Check. Motivation for the readers through all that hard work? MEGA CHECK. THE MODELER, SYD? Check since birth.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Well, there’s the abundance of reviews, especially for the HGs, and bandwidth. Everything else is epic.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I would love to see tutorials, for the beginners, who just got started in the Gunpla hobby, and for pros, so that they can improve their work. I would also love to see more custom builds, and lastly, you motivating everyone else MORE to take on their model kits, and let them start assembling and showing the people how great it is to introduce Gunpla to your life!

Oh, to you and your family, good luck, don’t forget anything important, and stay safe, since you guys are moving after all.

  64. christian says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
What I really like and what I keep going back to your site is the WRITTEN review, there are lots of people who are doing Photo and video review but written review gives a more of personal touch that it really gives a lot of value for people looking at the fence.

You also show that most of the custom stuff can be performed just using spray can and can still looks good.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I dont have anything in specific to not like for gaijin gunpla.

I know it gets dry sometimes but from my point of view, it is understandable since we got other matters to attend to.

Of course having a more updated lay-out and less Bandwidth error is welcomed

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
More integration/involvement with other Gunpla site/group.

Since you know Japanese, would it be better to share and highlight other Japanese known work on how they do their stuffs.

  65. Scubasage says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The reviews! I love the fact that you do actual reviews of kits and not just massive photo shoots calling them “reviews.”

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The comment system is quite limited, having very few replies, discouraging any prolonged discussion.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Well, more replies in the comment system would be sweet, but I get that it’s a limitation of the system being used. I’d also like more reviews in general, in particular more like the Wing review, where you reviewed and compared multiple versions of a very similar kit (Maybe the Unicorn and Banshees?), as well as reviews of some kits that don’t necessarily have updated versions, like the MG G Gundam stuff.

  66. Shuyeong says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Well, your website helped me in deciding whether which gunpla should I get 🙂 your reviews are just super awesome and your amazing collection of gunpla never stops to amaze me.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Well, I wished you would build more PG kits especially the PG zaku and Zeta

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
A side chatbox would be nice for all fellow gunpla lovers to exchange their opinions

  67. claycannonII says:

    1. The WIP posts are my favorite cuz its like im actually building it.
    2. I dont like the inconsistent posts
    3. I’d really like to see more posts about your martial arts studies cuz that seems cool

  68. Eaglebot says:

    1) I like that you how to build the gunpla step by step, I think it is extremely useful for a newer gunplar.
    2) I like you reviews but sometimes I feel like you talk to much about the good. I also would like to see more size comparisons.
    3) I simply like Gaijin Gunpla the way it is.

  69. What do I like – almost everything – Like the pics, the reviews, life in japan, etc.

What don’t I like – Not much. I haven’t been reading that long.

I’d like to see more actual building techniques, tips and tricks.

  70. Bo says:

    1) the separation of WIP for each build which make each part be post more detailed and not just a really long post of one build. even the review were more detailed such as the improvement or gimmick of the kits

    2) not enough pic for the “First look” segment for the kits. that’s all.

    3) more customization guide or tutorial and even some kit fixing guide for the broken and damaged kit. that will really help.

  71. Caesar says:

    1) I like Gaijin Gunpla for the reviews and what you do to the kits after they have been snapped together. Its always fun to see where you’re going with each kit, and I can also draw ideas from your builds.

    2) Personally, I figured that it would be nice if you could’ve separated the 1/144 Review List, that way the Real Grade and High Grade Kits are in different categories.

    3) I enjoy this site the way that it is, no need to add more meat to the website.

  72. Belades says:

    1) What I really like about Gaijin Gunpla are reading the in-progress builds and custom builds. I feel like I’ve learned a lot about modeling from this site. I also like to be able to read the photo reviews. I REALLY like seeing in-progress builds of online or event exclusive kits. I really miss HG builds and reviews, but I understand that you’re pretty busy so it makes sense to only highlight the builds of the rare one you’re interested in.

2)This is a small thing, but I sometimes feel like when gunpla is reviewed, it would be helpful if you knew a bit more about the MS (of series you haven’t seen, such as Build Fighters for example) so that fans of that mobile suit could have a better idea of what is/isn’t included with the kit and how accurately it’s represented. I’ve noticed several times that you’ll go “I’m not sure what this is supposed to be” when reviewing or building equipment (such as the shoulder mounted vulcan for the X). Asking the reviewer to watch the entire series an MS showed up in is too much, but I feel that about five minutes spent on a wiki such as the Gundam wiki reading about the mobile suit’s equipment, purpose and capabilities (although not necessarily history) would improve the quality of reviews. I mention this especially because a Mobile suit’s equipment (and what that equipment does) can make or break a kit for me (this is one of the reasons the Crossbone’s one of my favorites; not because it’s a pirate, but because it has so much stuff) and because my view of some mobile suit designs changed COMPLETELY once I read up on its armaments and uses (a good example being the F91.) Also, some kits (such as the build fighters kits) have compatability with older kits, and I feel that a lot of reviews of those kits don’t mention that or show how well it works. An example would be the review of the terrible Build Gundam MkII. As bad as that kit was, somebody might want to know how well the backpack works with other kits.

    3) I can’t think of any changes other than to work on the two issues mentioned above. Perhaps talking about the various Gundam anime whenever one catches your interest?

    Anyways, good luck moving!

    • Belades says:

I forgot to mention one thing that I like: the lack of video reviews. I STRONGLY dislike video reviews and for the most part find them far less effective and far more boring than photo reviews (also, they’re impossible to skim through if you’re short for time, and they’re much harder to read on the go. I absolutely HATE the fact that these days if I want to find a photo review of something I’m instead flooded with a bunch of half-hour video reviews I don’t have the time to watch. I REALLY appreciate that you don’t do this. I feel that if a video review is done, it should be purely to supplement photo and text reviews rather than to replace them.)

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The detailed WIPs, kit reviews and tutorials. As a gunplar, it is a great resource when deciding what kits to buy and planning for building and painting. And, of course, the contests 😉

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Hmmmmm…Uhhhh… not enought gunplas? 😛

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Maybe a segment for reviewing paints, thinners and the like. For example, about your experience with certain products and how they work and react with ps and abs plastics found in gunplas.

    Good luck with the move!

  74. Kim Stousland says:

    1. I like how you have done the reviews and your build posts. I have learned a lot about gunpla from reading your in-progress builds.
    2. I don’t have anything negative about gaijin-gunpla except that sometimes it is very long time between updates.
    3. I would like to see more HGUC kits reviewed.

  75. blinkme0 says:

    1) what I like best about the site is the honesty in your builds and reviews, alot of reviews tend to shy away from pointing out any flaws any kit may have or downplay them, you lay out whats good, whats bad and whats frun from an honest and understandable viewpoints with easily understadible didived scores among various areas.
2)what I dislike, has less to do with the reviews or content as much as finding it, some older reviews and builds and the like are harder to find when browsing the site, its not impossible but a very mild inconvenience
3)what i would like to see, i thought it would be cool if somehow along side your reviews there could be a section where we could post our own mini reviews, wheneter it be on something you’ve already built or just tiny posts of stuff we’ve built. make a whole GG community of this stuff

  76. Ryker says:

    1) What I like about Gaijin Gunpla is that it is the most detailed website. I could go to for a kit review and WIPs. There is a lot to see here and the fact that you go to the gunpla expo and show us pictures and tell us whats happening (for those us us who can’t go) just makes it better. When you do WIPs you are actually showing us what to do and how some parts work, other sites I’ve seen don’t do that a lot.

    2) What I don’t like is the fact that sometimes your site has that “bandwith exceeded” thing and we can’t access the site. My friends and I love this site and look forward to each and every post and the bandwith exceeded thing is just a let down sometimes.

    3) I can’t really think of anything that could make this site better cause its already really good as it is :D. This is the go to site I always visit for all things gunpla (despite the limited PG posts available but thats understandable as those things are expensive 0_0)

Good luck on your move and I hope you and your family are doing well!
GAIJIN GUNPLA IS THE BEST! 🙂

    • Ryker says:

I forgot to mention, another thing I like about your site is the fact that you tell us Nd show us exactly how you mod your kits for me thats a huge plus because I’ve never seen anyone else do that before its usually just before and after pics on the other sites I’ve seen.
Another thing I like is the fact that your reviews are so well done they are usually the deciding factor to whether or not I want to get a kit or not. Only here have I seen reviews that are so well detailed and thought out KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SYD! 😀

  77. Kinetic says:

    1. Personally, I really like the WIPs and reviews you put up. I find them to be extremely helpful when I’m trying to decide on kits.

    2. Other than inconsistencies with postings, I wish that you would review more kits in down times, whether old or different grades.

    3. Perhaps some tutorials or tips for modelers who are getting started or those who wish to improve their skills. I found your RG decal tutorial helpful, and I would love to see more things like that.

  78. Stanley says:

1.) What i really liked about Gaijin-Gunpla is that you always gave your honest opinion about the kits, no matter what other people may say and i really respect that. Also, the “Fun Factor” section is always a plus for me as sometimes i want to just play with my Gundams instead of just having them stand there.
2.) What i didn’t like about Gaijin-Gunpla is that sometimes, i feel like you bash on the Kits way to hard, Some of them do deserve it (MG Delta Plus) but for others like the MK. II, I just finished mine and I actually enjoyed making it again after all these years, so maybe say that it is a nice alternative if someone doesn’t have the A.E.U.G. Ver of the MG Mk.II
3.)In terms of changes, i really am not sure, but I would like to see maybe some Gundam Anime Reviews, no matter how crappy the series may be, cause some of the concept may seem bad, such as Build Fighters, but it ended being a great series that I will hold as one of my favorite Gundam series.

Otherwise else, Even though I don’t comment at all on this site, You have helped me decide on kits to get and I am happy with some of the comments you made on it! I wish you the best of luck Syd, and keep up thos reviews!

  79. Julius says:

    Hopefully this isn’t too long

    1) What I like about Gaijin Gunpla: The reviews. I appreciate how timely those reviews are, for example, the MG Double Bullet. Within a week you got that model built, photos taken, and review posted. Kudos to you for timeliness.

    2) What I dislike about Gaijin Gunpla: Honestly I’m fine with the site as is, just keep up the good work!

    3) What I think needs to be added to Gaijin Gunpla: I agree with one of the earlier comments, as seeing some build-offs on this site would be amazing.

    Thanks for reading this!

  80. Fireblade says:

    1) I really like the in-depth reviews, and the creativity in your builds is really different. The meticulousness of the coverage on your WIPs and customs makes for a very good read.
    2) It would be nice if you can edit the section for tutorials to be more visible, updated, plus with more non-tamiya/gunpla alternatives. and if you could include more hg models in your reviews, rather than just involving WIPs.
    3) Past the stuff i mentioned in number 2, it would be nice if you could do video reviews in addition to your normal reviews, that would be nice. Also could you add detailed rubrics as to how you score your reviews?

  81. Kevin W says:

    1) I love all the reviews and updates on the site

    2) Nothing in particular

    3) More tutorials or even detailed video tutorials

  82. Joey Kazaam says:

    1) Kit reviews are my favorite part of Gaijin Gunpla. Helps me out a lot.

    2) I don’t really like all the Girls Generation stuff but hey, it’s your site.

    3) I would love to see some .gif or other video type files in the reviews.

  83. NP says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Surprisingly, your site is very new to me and I have been going on here for reviews about kits and what I should buy. I recently started watching Gundam again and became re-interested in model buidling (only had 3 cheap kits over the span of 10 years). Going on your website, I saw a lot of interesting ideas and your reviews guided me on the purchases.

The part I like the most is the actual modeling and photographs of kits. Very well done.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Most of your kit reviews are for very difficult kits to build at least for me. I wish there were more reviews maybe on SD or HG 1/144 kits which are what most appeals to me and is easier on the budget.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I think a segment that would be good is your personal tips for building kits all in one place so we can be as good as you.

  84. Jeremy Rudyk says:

    This is really a shame.
    1. I love your very personable and usually entertaining style of writing. It really helps to keep interest!
    2. I can’t really think of anything I don’t like, but
    3. I workday definitely like to see a lot more showcases of others work!
I wish you the best worth your move!

  85. Diego says:

Moving! Exciting! I know not everyone shares the opinion, but the chance to move to a new place always feels exciting to me, even if its just for the chance to clear out all your worldly possessions and perhaps find a few hidden gems. Here’s wishing you luck with the move Syd!

    • Diego says:

Well, I accidentally clicked reply XD

      1) I was going to mention that in regards to you’re website, although I feel like I’m a relatively new reader, I thoroughly enjoy going through your reviews due to the honesty that you put into them pointing out flaws and highlights in design or detail with each kit. I also enjoy the photo galleries that you post along with the kits, I always enjoy taking a look at someone’s work! This may also seem strange, but I really enjoy the fact that your reviews are written instead of video reviews. Perhaps its just a preference, but I like being able to glance at them at work!

      2) If there is something I don’t enjoy about the website, it would have to be how going through the kit review section can be a little unwieldy, perhaps adding a way to filter or search through your posted reviews would be a good idea?

      3) If there is something I would change to the website, it would perhaps to add another, larger and more fleshed out section for tutorials on specific techniques? Maybe not tutorials done by yourself, but perhaps links to those which you found the most helpful? It would be nice to have a easy to reference location for when I need to brush up my admittedly novice skills! Also, perhaps adding more events where readers can participate, such as group builds, would be exciting and welcome.

  86. Stackme says:

1)the thing i like the most about gaijin-gunpla is that you are reviewing modelkits honest without your job getting in your way.

2)the thing i dont like about gaijin-gunpla is that the updates on the site are not that frequently (i understand that you dont have that much time for it and its more my own fault for wanting updates on the new gunpla`s from a honest and fair reviews)

3)the things that Gaijin-Gunpla can improve on are
1:more updates about upcoming gunpla`s from your own perspective
2:better posing for the gunpla in your reviews
    3:more Sinanju`s

Keep up the good work !

  87. kawaiidess says:

What I like about your blog – I really enjoy the format and style you use for your reviews. A lot of reviewers try to hide up the bad parts of a kit, but you sorta tell it how it is, and I really respect that. I also enjoy that you don’t try to pose a kit as elegantly as other reviewers, and you really add a sense of humanity to your reviews.

What I dislike about your blog – I think a bit of the formatting could change with some of your page layouts. The kit reviews page is good to see what you really enjoy and what you disliked the most, but I think that shines more of a negative aspect on the kits you didn’t like, when they should get a chance to shine too.

What I would change about your blog – I would love to see more posts about your day-to-day life. Your SNSD posts are fun and I really loved your Courage posts. It’s a lot to ask, but just posting a bit more in general would be the only change I could think of.

Thank you for your blog and everything you do. You really help the gunpla community and we’re all grateful for the stuff you do. c:

    1. what i love about gajin gunpla is your ideas on how you have kitbashed or painted a kit. it gives me good ideas into whether i should do something similar or give me new and better ideas plus the reviews for each gundam is great you break it down step by step so i dont have to worry about buying crappy gundams
    2. wht i dislike about gajin gunpla is probably the idea of you sometimes not giving a review on every gundam. sure it saves time but someone like me always has curiosity into whether or not the new kit is any good like the unicorn gundam phenex
    3. what i feel you could change with gg is probably show us guides on how YOU yourself build gundams like a tutorial of the basic steps in building a model. it could teach beginners in building a better gundam and making the world of gunpla even bigger

  90. AcheronRed says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Your WIP posts, especially for the larger kits – I like seeing points to watch out for. Your reviews are always a good go for advice as well, I don’t think I’ve been led astray by them.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I honestly wish you did more HG WIP/review posts. I realize there’s a lot of HGs out there, but some variance beyond every new MG release would be awesome.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Beyond HG WIPs/reviews, I’d love to see your take on some tutorial posts – if only a more in-depth project walkthrough like some of your older MG posts.

  91. Brandon Mace says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I love the extensive reviews that you post on here. I recently got into gunpla after being a Gundam fan for my entire life and now that I am in law school, I don’t have the time or the money to buy a kit that may not be as great as advertised. Your reviews show me just about everything I need to know about the kits so that I can make a more informed decision and feel good about my purchase. (Thanks for saving me from the MG Delta Plus!)

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I would say the biggest thing I don’t like about Gaijin Gunpla is the lack of semi-regular updates. I would love to know more of what life is like living in Japan or what is going on in the Gunpla world from your point of view rather than some other more generic Gundam Blog. Don’t get me wrong, I love some of the other blogs but getting to see you on HLJ Gunpla TV it seems more personal rather than a faceless blogger.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I would love to see the addition of a modifications/tutorial section that teaches viewers how to paint effectively or how to mod their Gunpla. Your WIP pages are awesome and seeing a more in depth view of how you go about modding would be great. I have watched some of your tutorials on HLJ’s Youtube and they are great but having them on your site would be better than fishing through Youtube.

In the end congrats on getting a new house and hope you enjoy your move!

  92. GNParticles says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I like many things: reviews of new kits, and how quickly you get up reviews of very new kits and the level of detail that you put into the reviews. I like the clear photography and the personality you put into your writing. It’s nice to feel that I know you through your writing. I like that you write about things other than Gunpla. I really like your graphs for your scoring system!

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I think the only criticism is the site issues with bandwidth that stops access.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I’d like to read a little more about daily life in Japan. To us in the west it’s such an interesting place and I’d be happy to see photos and articles on other aspects of life in Japan.

I’d like to see more painted builds from you as I really enjoy some of the colour schemes and variations you come up with, but I realize it’s not that easy for you to always do this.

    Good luck with your move!

  93. kelvin says:

congratulations on moving. New house means new start to everything. Which also means new gundams coming your way.

    1) I like the wip, ratings on variety Gundam kits (gives me an idea about how the kit is and if it is worth getting. Like the pg red frame, rg gp01 and gp01fb, rg zeta gundam). Preview of new kits and tutorials.
    2) I dislike the few ratings there are. Not all the gundams built have their own overall ratings.
    3) I would to see more in depth wip and also more overall rating of kits. Maybe could once awhile show your workdesk like what you did on your previous blog. What is new, what you are currently working on and what you will be working on next.

  94. Zhengcano says:

    1. I love the reviews. Even if I don’t agree with some points, I appreciate your honesty, and I use your reviews when I consider making a big purchase.

    2. There’s an imbalance of 1/100 and 1/144 scale on the site if I remember correctly. I would love to see some more hg love.

    3. Again I would like to see some more 1/144 love. I also think a life in Japan blog would be nice one in awhile, as I’ve also experienced living there and enjoy hearing others’ experiences.

  95. Kolin Galvan says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I like that your reviews are done in a way where its not too hardcore gundam based and is focused more towards the kit than the series it came from. And that you pick up kits that your lukewarm about.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

It’s not mobile phone friendly. And I’m already using a phablet, an m.gaijin-gunpla.com would be awesome.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I would love to see more comparisons with current and legacy kits i.e. 2.0 vs 3.0 etc

Or reviews of the older kits that are still very interesting.

Other than that, I hope for a safe and fast move to your new home because I cant wait for new updates.

  96. Darth Mingus says:

    Hey Syd,

    Big fan of your site.

Favourite thing about the site: Definitely the first look at kits. You usually post these the day they are released or before.

Going back to review old posts is a bit clunky. A chronological listing of WIP posts for a kit being reviewed would be helpful.

This might not be possible given Bandai’s release schedule, but some “blast from the past” reviews might be interesting, to see how some of the older kits hold up to the modern stuff (although the Build Mk-II did not do so well).

  97. Runsamok says:

    Oooh! Stuff!

    1) I love the review style. You’ve got a great style & your assessments are quite accurate. I’ve used your reviews as a shopping list for my now-ample backlog.

    2) The tech gremlins & downtimes are about the only thing I’ve got to complain about. I’m not a 100% match for all your interests, but that’s what makes this blog/site feel so personal & inviting, so no content complaints except not enough!

    3) I would love to see more reviews of kits new & old. Might not be enough hours in the day for you. Maybe guest reviews?

  98. Ledster says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – I like how the reviews are detailed and there is a score. I hate other reviews wherein the reviewers just give their opinions and doesn’t give me any tangible metric to see. I like the balance of how you do your reviews and generally agree with them.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – What I really do not like about Gaijin Gunpla is the lack of reviews for older model kits. I like to compare review scores as reference when buying gunpla but the problem is I can’t decide what to buy when there is no point of comparison (the score you give). Example, I would like to buy a Gundam Unicorn MG or a MG Wing Proto Zero but I can’t decide since Proto has a high score and Unicorn is unreviewed and I can’t quite get a good reference from other reviews out there which are just full of pictures.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    – I would like to see a Legacy Review Section for older kits that are still being reproduced by Bandai today. 🙂

    • Ledster says:

P.S. I have everything from MG Sword Impulse to MG Buster, I don’t know what to buy next. Stein, RX78-2 or Proto Zero #dilemma

  99. Otonashi says:

    1) I like how you always give your honest opinion on a kit, even though you work for HLJ.
    2) You don’t usually reviews HGs, which is a shame because many new HGs are fantastic kits.
    3) Reviews of more HGs and maybe some tools?

  100. Quang says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
GG updates on a somewhat regular basis and is always amongst the first to post reviews, first-looks, etc. on the latest kits. I also enjoy the photo, text, photo layout of the reviews; it’s an aesthetically pleasing choice. Finally, the reviews themselves are fair and usually objective.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I do not like the 70 point scale used for reviews and how each category influences the final score of a kit in the same manner. It’s not weighted. For example, the MG Sazabi Ver KA should have received an infinite score in the “overall look” category. It got a 10, but the “mobility” category received a 7. Thus, 1 point in overall look was worth the same as 1 point in mobility. This isn’t all that fair in my opinion because in the Sazabi’s case, looks should have been weighted more heavily than mobility. Sazabi, from its design, was thus doomed to being “pre-scored.” If that makes sense. Nitpicking here really, because it hasn’t been too problematic.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I’d like to see a weighted final score, like how some non-Gunpla review sites do it (I particularly like the way IGN does their rating system, so perhaps you could implement something like that). I would also like to see more inner frame pictures for the MG kits, maybe even a rating for how detailed they are (as I feel the more intricate an inner frame is, the higher the display possibilities are). Lastly, I’d like to see value for money perhaps formally addressed in some way.

  101. FlashX007 says:

    1) What do you like about GG.
Well in short I love your honesty about the kits in your reviews. I like how you point out where Bandai cuts corners and etc.
    2) What do you dislike about GG.
Well as everyone else has mentioned I don’t like how inactive the website becomes. There’s more to just reviewing kits. Tell us what you look forward to. What you think we’ll see in releases. Thoughts on Bandai’s Preniums. Share what your working on. Develop more of a interactive setting for everyone.
    3) What can be added/removed.
This ties in with 2. Basically stop making it a simple review site. Feature more fellow modelers works. It may be challenging due to work and other priorities but don’t just make it reviews from time to time. Make it more personal and interactive. We all come here for the content man and more content the more traffic there is. Not to mean it like that but I’d personally love to see tutorials from you on how you build kits and modify them if need be. WIPs as well of course. Tips, suggestions. Everyone learns and likes what one another has yo say pretty much in the hobby that’s why its so diverse. I’m sure by adding more material to an already successful site like yours is all it needs. Could have I said that shorter? Yeah, but hopefully you get what I meant. Good luck on the move man and if anything happens to fall my way I’ll make certain to treasure it and make you proud.

Thanks for the ongoing content your site offers us.

  102. Lucas says:

First of all, there are a few things that I really like about Gaijin Gunpla. I really appreciate how you keep your opinion of kits and series separate. Many other reviewers would give praise to a terrible kit simply because it comes from their favorite show. You, on the other hand, focus solely on the kit at hand. One example that comes to mind is your Delta Plus review. Despite the fact that you really dig the suit, you still manage to grill the kit for what it’s worth. Also, I can really trust your opinion on a kit because of your experience with models. I have made plenty of purchases based on your reviews.

Secondly, I do have some critiques for your site. I’ll avoid the obvious choices, such as bandwidth errors. Instead, I’ll critique your posing abilities. This may sound weird, but your poses seem uninspired sometimes, especially during your reviews. Your standing poses seem like you just placed the kit willy-nilly.

Thirdly, I feel like you need more kit galleries. I specifically want more customs. You have a knack for painting and kit-bashing.

Keep up the awesome work and good luck with the move!

  103. Eagle Eye says:

    1) I recently got back at GunPla making and your reviews are very helpful for me to find which kits are good and what potential problems are there.

    2) Sometimes you did a build on a kit that I am interested in, but did not actually do a review on it. It would be nice to do even a short concise review highlighting major pro and cons.

    3) Why not add a Tutorial section for beginner builders? Especially on how to paint using brush / airbrush / or even a simple top coat on plastic.

  104. Shin008 says:

Congrats on the new milestone, hope everything’s going smoothly, and best of luck for you and your family. 🙂

    For the inputs,

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Well, first obviously would be the reviews. I love your reviews as they are quite detailed, showing the pros and cons as well as comparison with other models, thus giving me quite a clear image of the reviewed model.
Also, since you don’t give any custom job on the model, it gives me the idea of how the model would look like in it’s basic complete form.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The time between reviews, and lack of HG reviews. That said, I understand that each gunplar has their own favorable models, and you’re quite busy with other things, so I don’t really mind these stuff. 🙂

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Seeing that you’re working in one of frontline bases for gunpla, getting news or something like the trend in Gunpla industry that you may find/hear at work would be a interesting topic for us readers. 🙂
A comparison between models based on the “value for money” (does the gunpla worth the price compared to other gunpla?) would also be a nice addition.

That’s all from me. Thanks for all the hard work so far and looking forward for more gunpla awesomeness. Gunpla for life!! XD

  105. Zenstrive says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Detailed WIP with photos, in ENGLISH, in almost timely fashion!

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

    Where are the HG reviews?

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

HG reviews. Also may be polls on each review so that other people can chime in.

  106. Agent Adam says:

    1) I like reading your perspective as a fan of modeling, but not a fan of the anime the kits are based on. Your opinions feel “honest” being based solely on the kit without letting fiction sway your opinion one way or the other.

    2) I’d like to see you cover HG kits more often.

    3) More reader submissions, if they are made available to you.

  107. GT3Hero says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Besides the Gunpla builds and reviews, my favorite article on your site was the way you covered the Touhoku disaster. I remember you saying you were not a really good writer but I disagree. I think you really described the situation well and I was able to empathize with you and the Japanese people. I was able to know first hand what a local person felt and thought about the incident. I wouldn’t have felt like that otherwise since I don’t know how to read Japanese and the news coverage is just that…news. You made it easy for me to understand what it’s like to be in that situation. That was a really well written article and I thank you for all you did. By the way, that PG Strike Freedom was amazing!

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
No offense Syd but my least favorite is the girls generation articles just coz its just not my cup of tea.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I’m foodie so how about covering some authentic Japanese food? Or gunpla related snacks and stuff.

  108. Raymond says:

    1) I like your way in elaborating pros and cons along with some photos in modeller’s point of view. Your reviews have been my good reference in deciding which kits I would like to buy.
    2) Nope
    3) More tips in painting and customizing would be good

  109. Falric says:

Moving house is a true pain in the arse, considering I just did it earlier this year as well – good luck with that and don’t forget the important things! 🙂

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The reviews. They’re pretty solid when it comes to demonstrating the pros and cons of each kit in all the important categories. It’s all very neat, organized and easy to find, and has helped me decide which kits I want to get.

The WIP pages are pretty awesome as well, and keeps me anticipating the new reviews.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Going to be a little straightforward here – some of the reviews (like the most recent Build MKII) are a little ‘biased’ (not sure if that’s the correct word, heh). Though it’s understandable as you’ve had years of gunpla experience and building another one of the same kits packaged as a different one is a slap in the face.

The webpage seems to be prone to going down although that’s not an issue you could possibly fix with your own hands.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

As a novice, I’d love to see more tutorials – don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of them out there on the net but it would be awesome if you made your page into a one-stop for all things gunpla.

  110. Anthony says:

    1. Love your reviews as it is very honest and not picking sides as to if it is a really hyped up kit or the fact that it is something new or different.

    2. WIP is good if you can pin point the areas which are different (in which you have done so many times), but at times, it is most of the repeats of the same stuff from previous kits.

    3. Basic and advanced tutorials

    🙂

  111. Brandon C. says:

    1. I enjoy the builds and WIP of your kits! They really give an indepth look to the kit
    2. I do not really like the failures and crashes on the website
    3. I think you should incorporatw group builds on the site

  112. Rafa says:

    1) I really enjoy and appreciate the format of your reviews, as they really help me know what to expect of the kit. The graphical representation of the build design, articulation (Sazabi ver. Ka really surprised me), and extras to name a few are easily accessible. They really help me when I’m picking a kit because I do not really need to read through the whole review (though it is enjoyable given that I have time). The WIPs that you provide are very detailed and you talk about the positive (and sometimes negative) points of the part that you are building (MG Build MK-II disappointed me, as it probably did others). I also like the fact that you do not only talk about gunpla, but Girls Generation too (and yes you seemed to have quite the regression), and I do agree that their more recent videos have been relatively lackluster as compared to their previous songs (The Boys>Mr. Mr. in my opinion). What I also really like about this site that sets it apart from quite a few others is the reader’s submission area. I really think that it’s great that you feature kits by other people as it shows that gunpla isn’t just about what you build, but also the countless others around the world who have the same hobby and passion for it.

    2) This is probably just some nitpicking on my part…when you build a kit I often do not see panel lines and have a lot of nub marks(for the reviews not the painted ones obviously) , and sometimes the kit doesn’t show its full potential. I do understand that it is so that you can provide information faster to other gunplars out there but…yep detailing and nub removal is just personal peeve of mine sorry :/ on a more serious note, the “Bandwidth Exceeded” thing that popped up quite often in the past few months really affected the site goers, and hopefully this wouldn’t happen for 4 (was it 5?) or so days in a row again since you’ve fixed it 🙂

    3) It’d be great if you could post more often as I often wait a lot (then again which gunplar doesn’t for new kits/news) but then that’s also part of the websites charm for me. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I said that I check your site at least 20 times a day to see if there is something new there 😛 Also it’d be great if you could put a tab for the tutorials that you have, and possibly add more. I thought it was weird that you didn’t have any but then lo and behold you had some…and they were pretty detailed too. I understand it’s a lot to ask since you’d have to make a lot of tutorials but I really think it’d help those who are a bit new to gunpla and also those who don’t really look if you have tutorials. Anyway, the addition of more tutorials and how-tos would be really helpful 🙂

Pretty unrelated to the contest but I’d just like to say thank you. You’ve helped me and my friends a lot when it came to deciding which kit we should pick up (picking my first RG was hard but then I ended up picking the Zephyranthes) so yeah thanks so much. Keep up the awesomeness and I hope that you don’t have too many problems while moving houses. Best of luck to you, in anything and everything syd 😀

  113. Francis says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Gaijin Gunpla played a big role in building my first kit. This website REVIEW KITS FAIRLY, pointing out the kit’s advantage and disadvantages on why or why not should anyone get the kit. It also gives me MOTIVATION on building kits better and better.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
It’s hard to answer this one because honestly I’ve always seen this site very effective in sharing information and more so.. I don’t like it when the site has ERRORS a couple of weeks ago, It’s up again so no big deal about that. It’s not the things I don’t like but the things I think the site is lacking, which leads question number 3.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I would like to see ADVANCED TUTORIALS on techniques building kits(painting, scribbing, drilling holes,etc.).
Introducing alternate tools that could be used in building kits. MORE CUSTOM BUILDS is also in my wishlist, introducing in improving the overall look of gundam kits. Also, I would like to see VIDEOS included in your reviews. (Those videos in fast forward while building the kit, from start to finish) I find it cool seeing the actual building process in action 🙂

    • Francis says:

“introducing in improving the overall look of gundam kits.”
      Edit:
Introducing extension parts Bandai that would help in improving the overall look of gundam kits.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
well… i dont like to read blog. but your blog is simple and thats make me want to read it. and the best things that i like is u make category for each gunpla grade.its help alot since i only collect mg gunpla. the picture also AWSOME!!!
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
sometime your wip is to fast…
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    VIDEO!!!! more PICTURE!!!!

  115. Sterling says:

    1) The thing I like about Gaijin Gunpla is the way the reviews are done: sectioned into each and every aspect of the kit.

    2) What I dislike about Gaijin Gunpla is its apparent lack of 1/144 kit reviews. Yes, Real Grades do scratch it, but, since they follow the Master Grade release schedule, they are fewer and farther in between especially in comparison to 1/100 reviews.

    3) Changes I’d like to see done to Gaijin Gunpla are more 1/144 reviews. While the 1/100 MG kits are cool, sometimes it would just be fun to see a review on something smaller and easier to build.

  116. Frankon says:

Moving is always a pain in the ass. Some of my gunplas didn’t survive my last move. Hell i dont know how was that possible but i managed even to lose some 1/48 F-14 complete model…
Hopefully your new place will be nice

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Sometimes a fresh look on some models different from some die hard Gundam fans (myself included) that refuse to notice the flaws. So basically almost no BIAS.
The build progress posts – sometimes someone need to do sth stupid so others won’t make the same mistake.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Bandwidth exceeded message ^^…. OK joking aside
there are almost no HG reviews on the site.
There is also a thing about splinting the build between gaijin-gunpla and hobbylinktv, but its more like a little annoyance. Well i got used to it

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Reader submissions sadly are dead. Well its mostly our (community fault).
    More K-pop?

  117. theodore says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the website design, the way you post and review is detail not that much words so it is easy to read.
wip photos are nice and clear.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
wip photos not that much will want to see a lot more of it.
Too much gap time between post, I always go to this website everyday to check if there’s a new post or not.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
maybe when ur posting ur work on facebook u can also write and post a bit of these on gaijin gunpla
maybe post a picture of what kit you are currently working on.

  118. shika89 says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Its the most extensive review site for Master Grade kits that i have ever visited, along with in depth take on build of each Master Grade (in particular) kits. I really enjoy the abundance of graphics + simple mod tutorials that you’ve provided for almost each build. I found your scoring system in percentage helpful in comparison to other review sites (some of them doesn’t even have scoring system). Your scoring system really did influence almost all of my purchase from HLJ. Owh and 1 more thing, i do like that you provide link for kits and materials to HLJ site. Find it helpful and time saving to plan for my purchase. Owh and 1 last thing, I love that PG SF GAF Tohoku project. Its inspirational. Hope you will never bring that section down.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Over the years, i have taken notice that you got busier and have spent less time to update materials, and most of the stuff updated recently are all OOB build. Im looking forward for your next big project (what happen to the MULLARD?) like your glorious PG SF Tohoku project. Having said that, i do understand you are a busy man Syd.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

It would be great if you could improve your scoring system a little bit. Some of the responses above already touched on this topic. I do hope that you can improve mark distribution in your scoring system to make them less biased. Compensation in mark assigned for bulky kits like Sazabi ver KA. in posing area should considered before assigning its final score. Having said that, i find your scoring system honest and among the best to date in comparison to other Gundam Kits review site.

And it would be great too if you could get more posts up on RS section. I would love to see more inspirational build in that section.

    Happy moving Syd. =)

  119. Aldi says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla ?
    – Definitely the Gunpla reviews, you give out all of the pros, the cons, the fun factor and the bad sides of each Gunpla with decent judgement and scoring, without actually pointing out the main deals of the kit itself like any other people, and not just that, you also give out several tips by those reviews during their WIPs, which I found really grateful (such as the time you built the Steingeese, modifying the leg part helped me a lot), your website is very neat and well put out, your Gallery section has loads and loads of great kits that that can be pointed as great inspirations for building Gunpla kits, your website is very great and filled many interesting stories towards your daily life in Japan and even K-Pop topics ^^, I love this website really much !
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – If I have to criticize there is just one thing that I gotta say, sometimes whenever I try to open this website on daily basis (looking out for your upadtes in new kits and WIPs) it sometimes crashes and won’t allow me to open it. That’s the only thing I dislike sometimes about Gaijin Gunpla, everything else are A-Ok.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    – In my humble opinion, it would be great if you can give out more recent updates upon new kits that you have (which I really love to read and see, since you always suprise me with the new kits that you have first in hand, such as the Unicorn Phenex), I would love if there were more tutorials and helpful tips on this website for building or even painting kits, and I think that is all :D. And I hope in the future Gaijin-Gunpla can be more up to date, giving out more surprises such as revealing new kits and etc., and finally improve much more better as always ^^
*Oh and congrats on the movement 😀

  120. pablo944T says:

Hey congrats on moving, I hope the new neighbours will love the smell of aerosols in the morning (or whenever it is you spray paint):D .

    1) I’m currently studding to be a computer technician and I do have web design as a class and let me just say that the best thing I love about the site is the layout, it’s really user friendly.

    2) Tbh this is a hard one ha, I see nothing I would change about the website itself but if I’m being honest my biggest gripe is time between articles (I know family and life take up most of your time but a schedule would be good)

    3) What I would love to see is a slightly updated score system for reviews i.e. add a few more segments like inner frame for a more rounded percentage.

  121. Michael R says:

    1. What I like is hearing the perspective of someone a little closer to retail. I also like the fact that you build some kits from series that you don’t like and review them objectively, such as the AGE kits.

    2. The site runs out of bandwidth a lot, which gets a little annoying. Not that bad of a problem in the grand scheme of things, I suppose.

    3. I’d like to see some non-gundam reviews, but that might defeat the whole “gunpla” idea.

  122. Capt Kyle says:

    1) The pictures and poseability of a gundam model are well showcased in the reviews and pictures.

    2) That there are such long gaps between reviews and articles. I get they take time and you have a life outside of Gunpla, so it’s not a big complaint, it’s just a minor complaint.

    3) I’d like to see more variety in the Gundams. Sometimes it seems like it’s mostly kind of the standard, less bizarre kits that get built. I’d like to see you build some of the stranger HGUC entries.

  123. sushix2000 says:

    1. English review site
    2. In your MG Build MK 2 review, I didn’t need you to sound off a death horn regarding your dislike of the Gundam Build Fighters anime. The Gundam fandom itself is already rife with people ragging on each other for their taste in Gundam series, don’t need to have that coming from a review of a model kit.
    3. Perhaps you should have user submitted reviews with guidelines of the photos and aspects you want?

  124. Derek says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Well, i enjoy the reviews, WIPs and got to know the issue/prob of the kit b4 buying it.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Bandwidth only that.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Maybe Poll of the Week i guess or interesting even, contest or much more ?

  125. shiro11 says:

    1) Since your in Japan and work for HLJ some of your WIP’s get to the pros/cons of a kit quicker than just about any other English site.

    2) I wish there were more original/painted builds. I know your busy so that’s not really an option though.

    3) You could talk about what the Hobby community is like in Japan since it feels like there is a disconnect between ours and theirs.

  126. Ace says:

    1. Awesome gunplas!
    2. Girl’s Generation. I’m sorry man! Don’t get me wrong, it just feels out of place.
    3. Life in japan, Coz It’s the ultimate fanboy’s dream.

  127. Francis says:

Best wishes to you on your new move! Hope everything works out smoothly. Here are my answers to your questions:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the straight forward reviews about kits and all things Gundam. It’s cool to see that Gaijin Gunpla also plays around with some kit bashes that are cool to see and give people like me some ideas on my own custom builds.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I wish that there were more reviews on limited edition (P-Bandai) kits. Alot of us are willing to put down for these kits but are skeptical on getting them because some of us don’t really know how awesome they really are. When I do get to see these limited edition kits on other sites, I then want it but when I go to look for it, it either is out of stock or on sale for an insanely price.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
It would be awesome to see some Metal Build and Robot Spirit reviews especially compared to their Gunpla counterparts.

  128. MauricokitoMKII says:

    Hi Syd!

I’ve been a frequent visitor of Gaijin-Gunpla for a little while now, it’s been a great help and deal maker too and for that I thank you.

1)The feature I like the most about the site has to be the way the builds get reviewed, going from the “First look”, then some awesome post with a crazy name like The Xfactor! or something else all the way up to the final overall score! This turns into decision maker man! Most gunpla blogs and reviewers have the single boring review without showing any perks to make them as exciting as yours! I’m not a teenager anymore so I have to choose wisely which model to get since I cant have a lot of them, this is when I go through every single post you made for the build I’m interested in.

2)Hmmm, hard to say, just little things like sometimes you may miss few details and answers I’m looking for but that’s my fault for not asking since I can see you reply to most comments. The one thing that really bugs me Syd is when you say you haven’t watch the anime for the kit you are building (yes, the Sazabi!!!) but no body said you cant enjoy gunpla without watching the animation. it’s just that it serves me as inspiration! helps bring more excitement to the build!

3)Changes I’d like to see, Syd, a lot of people likes you and follow the site and facebook, you could have a gaijin-gunpla army to cover gunpla events around the world. For example, I go to New York Comic-con every year, I could gather material to show on your site just like many other gunplars attend to other expos around the globe!

Good luck moving, hope no gunpla gets hurt during the process.

  129. Carl C. says:

    1) I like how the website reviews kits, and how you create/paint these kits.

    2) I dislike having to see the site under maintenance like those 404 error thing…

    3) I’d like to see video tutorials on your site

  130. David W says:

    1) Most of they reviews are really good, but mostly I like the lame jokes. They are usually pretty funny.

    2) I know you have to be really busy, but the site is not updated as often as I would like.

    3) I would really like to see more reviews of some older kits instead of only mostly new kits. Ive just gotten back into this in the past couple years and would like to see reviews of some kits I could be missing out on. Also I know this is Gaijin-GUNPLA but I would also like to see some other kits besides gundam.

Great site. You do an awesome job!

  131. Stargazer8128 says:

    1) Useful reviews with frequent updates on newer kits. This is my go-to site for new kits.
    2) Bandwidth errors happen a tad too often.
    3) Would like to see more gunpla tips included in reviews, etc. Things like how to paint sinanju gold emblems and other simple modifications.
    Happy moving !

  132. Trevor W says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla? I watch you un gunpla TV and its a good site for your more 1 on 1 review of specific model kits you have done.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla? Need more reviews, =)
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla? Would love to see more reviews as well as seeing you do a few contests or something. Maybe also some more in depth tutorials on the basics of gunpla building for beginners.

  133. Marc0eld0rad0 says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – The reviews, gives me better perspectives on new/old gunplas that may or may not be a part of my collection. It also makes choosing much easier. 🙂

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – When the bandwidth get’s overloaded and i’m unable to check the site for updates. Also regardless if the kit was already built before, or if a review was already given, i would appreciate if all gunplas go through the whole/complete review process. Example: Mg Sengoku AStrays review…i know you already did one with MG Astray Red Frame Kai but it still would have been better if Sengoku got the same treatment versus referring to the latter when it comes to the similarities. 🙂

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    – More builds, more reviews, more of everything. Update us not just when you have a new build, try to pitch in tutorials and other helpful hints, help the newbies before they know what they need to know. 🙂

  134. Arein says:

    1. I’ve always come here for the kit reviews, its not that I can’t decide myself but having to read an article that supports or disagrees with my opinions really does help. Also most of the post really does go into detail.

    2. Some of your mod choices ‘Sonic Marasai’ and GAF Iron Man. Liek Dayum son! I do not like them at all. I love Iron Man and I like Sonic as much as the next guy but the way the ideas are incorporated into the gunpla just doesn’t sit right with me.

    3. I think you’ve built enough kits now to step up your game. Isn’t it about time to add in putty and pla-plates into the mix? 🙂

  135. Chris says:

1)I like your reviewing style(e.g you give your honest opinion and your not just trying to sell us things that aren’t good or well done and how you joke form time to time) and how everything is fluent and you can go from one place to another with a click. I also like the fact you do everything in easy to understand terms (e.g your not going into too much depth like how to build a fission reactor in a million easy steps).

2)I don’t like that there is a very limited number of reviews you have a lot but i would like to see you go back to some older sets *cough*rx-121 hazels*cough*

    3) I think a size comparison at the end of each review(e.g heavy arms review comparing it to other wing kits and some form of house hold object just so you can really get a feel if you’ve never built a gundam before (i have I’ve built 3)(hopefully I’ll get more for my bday) and do a bit more hg type thing. other than that everthing about this site is spot on excellent

  136. HJ Tittel says:

    1) I like how the reviews and WIPs always keep me interested in Gunpla and inspired to build my own kits even though I haven’t touched a runner in a few years

    2) I don’t like that articles don’t come as often as I’d like, hehe

    3) I’d like to see more reader contributions/group builds (but only those Syd deems worthy)

  137. Leon says:

Hey Syd, stumbled across your website during my stay in Hong Kong, and I must say it’s been an awesome discovery. Thanks to you I’ve got back into gunpla after many years of not touching a gundam kit!

    1. Love the reviews, especially the way it’s laid out making it easy to spot the good and bad points of each kit, I actually bought a lot of (20+ in the last 4 months) MG kits based on your reviews, (good job I didn’t get the new gundam build fighters mg kit),

    2. Hmmm, not sure really. Maybe reviews on bandai premium kits, oh and that bandwidth problem, but that’s bound to happen as the site grows in popularity.

    3. I’d like to see tutorials on how you tackle different aspects of gundam kits, I know some of it’s covered in your W.I.P’s, but like how you would apply water decals, how you panel line parts, your process when you paint them, etc, and maybe a section in the site that shows you what ‘tools’ you use and your recommendations on tools.

Have fun moving, and don’t forget to keep your site updated for all us gunplars out there

  138. Dan says:

    Hi Syd,

Hope the move goes well and that you have good weather. I had to move during the hottest temperatures in Michigan two years ago and it was brutal.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I really enjoy the in depth reviews. It really helps a lot when deciding on what to pick up. And that you are honest with the reviews. You aren’t saying all the kits are great and expect Bandai to make good products.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
There honestly isn’t anything I really dislike about the site. I understand that after family, work, and hobbies you have limited time. I think you do really well with the blog.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I always like tutorials or tips on the model kits. They are very useful. If it was chose between reading tutorials or a Gundam build fighter, I would chose the tutorial. The build fighter really doesn’t interest me.

Good luck with the move Syd! And hoping for the PG Blue Astray!

    Bandwith error >.<

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

Height comparisons… and no more bandwith error ^_^

Good luck with the move! Hope you find your missing parts while you're moving stuff around hehe

  140. Nate says:

Hey Syd, new fan here wishing you the best of your moving, and can’t wait to see what you’re planning to do next when it comes to Gunpla!

    1) What do I like about Gaijin-Gunpla? Mainly the reviews, to be honest. Not only because they’re in-depth and tend to cover a lot without being too biased, but also because they encourage me to try out other kits I never thought i’d try (I have you to thank for ordering a MG Geara Doga, and I hope it’s as fun as you said it is!)

    2) What do I not like about Gaijin-Gunpla? Being a new fan, nothing I really dislike so far.

    3) What would I like to see next? Someone in the comments mentioned reviewing older kits, and I would have to agree. I have a rule-of-thumb to avoid kits older then 2010, but I feel like there’s probably some kits that could be good, and i’d love to get an expert’s opinion on them. That, and tutorials on lining, painting, little things like that to add a little more flare to my kits.

That’s really all I can say. Hope the move goes well, and can’t wait to see what you have in store for the future! (Hopefully a Turn X MG)

  141. Jeremy Rei Hsu says:

I quite like the visuals used when reviewing, like the pictures ofc and the graph at the top of each review. Also the tidbits you sometimes share about life in Japan are very enjoyable.

What I don’t like though is dat top banner! We’ve been looking at the same mg runners for a while now 😉
(how it spells GAIJIN is cool tho)

If anything I’d like you to take more of the backstory of each gunpla into the account and assess its faithfulness to the source material. Of course though, the gunpla qualities should hold priority.

  142. beepbeep says:

    dear syd,

i’ve been an avid reader of gaijin gunpla for quite some time now, and i read all of your reviews, viewed all your wip posts, and learned a lot about the hobby that is still considered a luxury here in the philippines. imagine my delight then, that you’re offering to giveaway a PG astray blue frame, a kit that i can only dream of having, for a mere comment.

and so i break my read-only silence. :p

    i like gaijin-gunpla because: 1) it is the only website that can I can access through our company’s firewall (weird); 2) the gaigun jr and cat cameos; 3) the giveaways;
    i don’t like gaijin-gunpla because: 1) the goofy gundam poses on the reviews/galleries, it makes the gundams look a less majestic than they really are;
changes that i’d like to see on the site: 1) better bandwidth allocation; 2) more girls generation features

did i get it in the bag or what? C: thanks syd, more power to gaijin-gunpla!

  143. Quinton N. says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla? I love the quality of the pictures and text that come together to in the end make an excellent review that is not only entertaining, but informative and helps me in decisions as to what I want to buy.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla? I don’t like the slow pace of some reviews. The parts system is cool, but I believe you could get reviews done faster by just working on the end product.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla? I would like to see Gaijin Gunpla become more community friendly. Maybe a weekly post showcasing some of the communities either customs or collections.

In the end, I hope the moving process goes well for you!

  144. RCM says:

    1) Like: the detailed build reviews, especially when they note potential trouble spots. Also like: the photos showing the range of posability. Also like: the personal stuff–whether full entries, or just little asides in the build reviews.

2,3) Don’t like/Suggestions for improvement: The only thing that bugs me about the site is the lack of back/next links at the end of posts. If they’re actually there and I missed them, I will be very embarrassed. But if that’s the case, I’d say make them more prominent 🙂

NOTE: I did not read any of the above comments, so any similarities are pure coincidence.

  145. Joseph says:

    1. I like how you’re basically the only place that gives a numerical rating. It really helps to decide between kits.

    2. I wish you’d update more (and do more HG kits), but I understand that you have limited time.

    3. Stuff that engages the fans a bit more (contests etc.) would be great.

Have fun in your new home!

  146. YongKang says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the fairly detailed reviews of the kits and the score system. I hope there’ll be more reviews in near future. Also, I like the simplistic yet detailed WIP.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The lack of SD, HG and PG reviews and other kits like Macross or Valvrave or Kotobukya kits. I know that Syd, you’re drawn toward the RGs but think about those with a little purse. HG is such a big family in Gunpla that can’t be ignore. I hope you take that as a consideration.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla? I think in the reviews, you can add in the price of the kit and say it’s worth it or not. I think getting a chat box on the blog is helpful for people to give tips and to ask questions or even chat about gundam stuff in general.

  147. QrsLuu says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I love the way all the WIP and reviews are done. And i also love how you dont always post stuff about gunpla. EG. Girls generations/life in japan
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The lack of reviews of older kits. Sometimes i would like to see your detailed reviews of kits from a few years ago, or even older. or even non Gunpla reviews would be awesome and helpful for people
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Maybe adding links to tutorials or even GunplaTV youTube links for beginners. And more frequent reviews, maybe by asking Ryan to do some reviews or other Gunpla enthusiest to review in your currently awesome review format

  148. Steeve says:

    01. Known your site for a little bit over a year. Love your rating system and your abundance of pictures.

    02. That weird ‘Website not available’ error message you sometimes get. (Like not too long ago?) 🙂

    03. As many have previously mentionned, more kits reviews. And perhaps a bit more of what it is to be living in Japan. 🙂

  149. Kevin says:

    1) I love the reviews! Your reviews are awesome Syd. They’re highly detailed, have excellent quality pictures and you go in depth very well. I also like the build and WIP series, it’s great seeing how to customize and work on my own kits.

    2) To be honest there really isn’t anything that I don’t like because they all would follow under the third question.

    3) I’d like to see more kit reviews, more WIP with their finished builds. And more diverse kit reviews maybe Zoids, Armored Core, even SD gundam. Just take the same formula from your gunpla kits and apply it to other kits and it’d be great Syd! Overall what I’d like to see Syd is just for you to keep up the good work Syd, I love browsing around on gai-gun and just hope to see more posts!

  150. Steven Johanes says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I really like your detailed review! I also like the scoring system because it really makes me think which kit is worth buying and which one is not.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I don’t really like how you pose the kit in the review. i think you should try posing it with better poses and taking photo from good angles.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Maybe sometimes you should review more kits other than gunpla ?(I know this site is called gaijin gunpla, but still..)
Thank you! Goodluck in your new place Syd!

  151. Asian1skill says:

    1. Lots of detailed reviews on kits and in english (I know theres dalong and you can use google translate) but you make it more realistic from a modelers perspective if it that made any sense haha.

    2. Caucasian guy from the same province as I and loves gundam. What can I hate about it =D!

    3. Prob link some of your tutorial videos or even add some from fellow modelers could be a nice and new feature.

Anyways hope your house moving goes good without any problems. I tend to move once a year and its a pain haha. Cheers

  152. Jason says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the detailed posts that follow your build. They’ve definitely come in handy when I’ve been having difficulty with a particular part in the past.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I really like seeing custom jobs and would love to see more of your creative takes on kits. I really liked how much detail you showed of your Steingeese build and would love to see more of those.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I’d love to see more reader submissions featured.

  153. Sean says:

Hi Syd! Good luck on moving! Why not take a few pics and show us how your new house looks like?

    ^.^

    1) I like Gaijin Gunpla, as you do your best to ensure your readers get an in-depth analysis of new and old kits, and you often give all of us great tips on to improve our modelling. Every opinion on your kits is really well-thought of and I appreciate the hard work you have put in trying to spread the love of Gunpla.

    2) If I had to be nitpicky, I would say it’s the lag time when loading the page on mobile. But other than that, great job. 🙂

    3) I think I’ll like to see reviews of old HGUC kits and some SD kits, as well as new kitbashes and some kitbashing techniques.

Thanks Syd. And once again, good luck! 😀

  154. Gunplarer says:

this is the first time i comment in this website

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I love your review style, you give score so person know how worth the kit is. the picture quality is good and your blog has got a good appearance

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

sometimes when i access your site it show bad gateway and i don’t know why

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I want a tutorial video how to scratch build gunpla or modifying gunpla or maybe review about PG and Mega size kit

    sorry for my bad english

  155. fuzzyguy says:

    1. Your detailed reviews, scoring system, and photography is one of the best resources for gunpla kit reviews in English online.

    2. I don’t care for the slow update schedule, be it reviews or your WIP section. I can understand and relate to why that is, being a few months behind on posting WIP shots of my own stuff for a while now in various model forums. I’d love to see more content, but I completely understand why there is a wait between updates.

    3. I’d like to see more kit reviews from other companies or lines than just Gundam. Seeing reviews of kits from Wave, Hasegawa, or reviews of the Macross Frontier kits would be awesome. I also think it may be helpful to have a couple of guest editorials from other model kit builders out there so as to increase your site’s update frequency. Seeing a head to head build off between you and other builders or kit review comparisons I think would only add to the quality of your work with GaijinGunpla and potentially reduce the work load on your end a bit. It is something I’ve seen folks do in other modeling sites for things such as miniatures and it can turn out really well.

Keep up the good work, and I hope the move doesn’t exhaust you too much. I did a cross-country move in the US a few years back and brought more kits than I really should have along for the ride to sit in the closet. I’d love to see an area where winners of any free kits post wips and reviews and perhaps you could use that as a spring board to look for folks to add to your team and add more content to the site?

    Cheers,
    fuzzyguy

  156. Jordan says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla? I like the opinions. You know you’re not the end all/be all with gunpla but you know you’re honest opinion can’t hurt.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla? Of course its the lack of posts, but that is the same with everyone, life gets in the way.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla? More reader submissions or submissions from other modelers, even if they aren’t gunpla. Kind of like the boss builds segment.

  157. Examinus says:

    1. What i like about Gaijin Gunpla is the down to earth approach on reviewing and building kits. Beside that this website being completely in English is a huge plus since a lot of the gundam blogs are in Japanese which i unfortunately still don’t master.
    2. Things i don’t like are the ‘life in japan’ section of the blog, not because i don’t like the posts but it feels a bit misplaced especially with the lack of posts in it.
    3. Changes i would like to see is as stated above either more content in the life in japan section (maybe a shop tour or some cultural things we foreigners don’t know of) or just scrap it. Beside from that some aftermarket reviews would be fun.

For the rest keep on going with this fantastic blog/site and good luck moving.

  158. OverTheRainbow says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I like Gaijin Gunpla for reviewing new releases of kits and the in-depth WIP posts; how different parts go together, what section to look out for when putting them together and how the completed models look straight out of the box without any touch-ups. I also like your honest opinions about kits in their reviews and how you are not afraid to voice your personal views on kits even if the comments you have about them are not satisfactory. The navigation for the site is also easy to understand and made moving from page to page simple.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

There aren’t much WIP posts on the modding process for your custom kits. The variety of kits featured are also quite limited as in there aren’t many kits from other Gundam timelines and older releases. Also, kits from other grades like High Grade and Non-grade are not getting much of the highlight even though these lines have their own unique features and some of their kits are almost on par with Master Grade kits.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

Reviews and build posts of older released kits and of kits from other grades and Gundam timeline would be nice. Tutorials/guides/WIPs to modding and customizing of your kits. Although the site’s main focus is Gunpla, I would love to see other kits being featured besides Gundam. An inside look of other brand kits besides Bandai would be a nice touch too.

  159. NoobSauce says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I like that it’s not just about GunPla, but it’s also about your experiences as a Gaijin. Regular readers like me feel a special connection with you, Syd. You tell us about your travels, your job, new experiences in Japan and your family and the difficulties that come with all of those things.

The site has also become a community, even without a forum and having only a comment section. There is not only you but a lot of other modelers out here willing to give out advice and help newbies like me out.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I like that you, Syd are really frank when you tell us you don’t know much about a kit’s history within the Gundam universe and stuff. But it would help if you were a little bit more stoked on the anime and stuff as some of the rest of us. Even if only for the really good ones like the original Mobile Suit Gundam series.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I’d probably like to see a better community functionality. Instead a reader submission of only kits, you could build a site with input from several other prominent Gunplars that write in English and make this thing a more collaborative thing. That should take care of the sometimes slow flow of updates to the site.

    Cheers!

  160. Marcin says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like the review’s of mg line. You test them very closely, point any mistake or letdown that Bandai made in the kits. You review’s are objective, you don’t try to crate problem about some kit’s, if it no so important to everyone. I like the marks system on review’s, and I like how you write about the kits.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Hmmm… I like this site but, I don’t like that most of review’s are only mg line I would love to see some more rg line or some new hg kits.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
You should add some how to do stuff on site, like you did on gunplaTv beginning. For example how good use sand paper on kits, what kits should look after. We don’t need YouTube videos on this site, some text and photos are enough.
Btw. You do great thing for every gunpla builder on the world. Take care. Greetings from Poland!

  161. Gordo says:

    1. Gaijin Gunpla is simply an awesome site! Reviews, kit bashes/customs, and WIPS with clear explanations and photo’s, mixed with some humour and insight into Japanese culture makes for an enjoyable read. I had no idea that PG grade existed until finding G.G. Thanks!

    2. Can’t say there is anything I don’t like. My wallet doesn’t like the fact I found PG’s thanks to G.G. LOL.

    3. How about a bi-weekly spotlight on some of the upgrade parts HLJ carries from The Adlers Nest and other MFR’s? one or two products with general description, what grades it’s intended for ,with some good photo’s for the newer gunplar’s who’re ready to level up?

Hope your move is smooth and trouble free.

  162. Ty says:

I’m a big fan of the OOB review method that you use for most of the kits. While I end up painting the vast majority of my models, I use GaiGun the vat majority of time to pick out which kit I’ll start next, exclusively based on how the build looks in the review, and your thoughts on how well it’s engineered.

That being said, I find the layout of the site on mobile to be a bit confusing. Sometimes reviews will have a gallery or custom WIP smack in the middle of the review WIP, and I find the continuity to be a little jarring. Perhaps by separating builds into OOB WIPs and custom jobs, this could be avoided. Or maybe it’s just how Android shows the site in mobile.

I’d like to see a more prominent location for video links and hobbytv embeds, as those are fun to follow and having them centralized would make things easier. I’m also not a fan of the word cloud at the bottom, but that’s because I don’t understand their purpose or aesthetic.

All in all, great site, my favorite, which I check every day. I admire your building skills, to be sure, but it’s moreover your photography and most of all your writing style and rhetoric that keeps me coming back.

  163. Chaaaard says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
-I really love your reviews. I like how detailed your reviews are and they help me a lot when I decide what kit to buy.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
-The only thing that I don’t like is how few the kits you review are.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
-More reviews if possible add videos! 😀

  164. Hypnos says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
well, like any other gunpla blog, i like this site because is like seeing another gunpla nut like me learning new techniques and evolving with each new build, it motivates me to keep going forward and improving myself 🙂

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
i would love to see more reader submissions.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
this is related to the second question. i would like to see this site, besides as a personal blog of a great modeller, to be also a site to promote and share builds and works from builders from around the world, pro and amateur gunpla builders alike.

we need more sites doing this, and maybe someday the gunpla builder World cup will actually be a world event, not just a few countries 🙂

  165. davidss says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like it because it gives a different perspective on the plastic kits reviewed, also I like your sense of humor and approach to gunpla

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
In my opinion the main page is a little cluttered, its like looking at a newspaper.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
maybe you can make your latest post to have bigger window then the other windows, to steal the attention when the site is first loaded
More site updates are always welcomed too 🙂

I like this website a lot, keep it up Syd 🙂

  166. SW says:

1)I like the clear cut reviews and awesome work in progress entries, especially when we get to see the step by step methods and thought processes in working towards the final product.
2)I don’t really like the fact that the Life in Japan posts are so limited. I understand that this is mainly about Gunpla, but I would like to hear more from you about the mundane things in life as a Gaijin too! Its rather interesting to us readers you know!
3)Hrmm… maybe videos of how you do your painting, would like to see that! Or maybe a timelapse of kit building?

    Thanks!

  167. KL says:

1)What i like about Gaijin Gunpla is the way you break things down to review the kits and the various WIP you post here. I’ve always like to see WIP before seeing the final product

    2) What I dont like is probably how the bandwidth problem often happens though it’s probably the site’s problem

    3) What I love to see is maybe videos? or more reader submissions, once a while seems too little. Also they can help fill the gaps while you’re away!

Hope you have a pleasant move and keep up the good work!

  168. wallz says:

good luck with your move, it can be a hassle but worth it once your done unpacking everything.

since you asked i will take the chance and answer Q 3, not for the competition but just because i have a few ideas.

The first change i would like to see is maybe doing wip’s and reviews of other kits like zoids, frame armez ect..

Next i see that quite a few people would like to see tutorials of things so maybe having a tab on top just for tutorials.

lastly it seems that high grade kits are lacking on here and HG’s are very popular, it would be nice to see a few more wip’s and reviews for them.

anyway thanks and good luck again

  169. Luke says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

What I like about Gaijin Gunpla is that it gives me a detailed look on kits that I wanted to get, kinda like a preview of the awesomeness/fails of a gundam. It gives me the pros and cons of each kit. Plus you give awesome comments regarding the kits you’re building.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

What I don’t like is that when you moved from blogspot, you lost the continuous scrolling with your posts. I kinda like that from your blogspot.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

Probably put back that continuous scrolling where you compile all your posts and sort it by date. It’s easier to catch up on all your posts because currently, I’m sure I haven’t seen all your website’s content.

  170. 3rdman says:

1)I love the writing style and the amount of content in each post. Details of every step of the build are pretty hard to come by, and they really help show off the complexity and engineering design that Bandai has put in. The step-by-step pictures also help the readers understand your thoughts, and show where you had difficulties.

2)I feel more careful posing of some kits in reviews could help make the kits stand out more. Too often a good kit can look bad by merely being placed in a poor pose. As a whole the poses are good, but they could be much better. An action base could help a lot.

3)The website layout can be a bit confusing at times, with many tabs and sections, with some important sections like old reviews and reader submissions tucked away. I would perhaps think of changing around which topics are shown and which are hidden.

  171. Janus says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The in depth reviews are very enjoyable
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I feel that the build section takes too long and is fairly boring.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I’d like to see more in depth WIPs (and more of them in general)

  172. Kiko says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The review rankings. Very formal and professional looking.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
That’s a hard question. Hmmm, let’s see… Your website often shuts down and that’s all.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I know this site name is Gaijin Gunpla so preferably all reviews here are all about gunpla but I actually wanted to see other reviews, aside from gunpla, like Zoids and Figure-rise model kits.

    • Kiko says:

I know you already did two WIP posts and short review of MG HeatMetal but I actually want more and presentable review.

      Good luck to you, Syd!

  173. D-y says:

    1. What I like about Gaijin Gunpla is that this is probably the only place where I can read a WIP while laughing at some your comments at the same time. I really do enjoy that. Also, the way you review all of those kits are really helpful. Another thing is when you went off topic sometimes and telling us about your other interest and life. It really makes the site more interesting to read.

    2. The thing that I do find a bit annoying is the interface of your home page. I like to read preferably according to timeline rather than according to categories or tags. Maybe it is just me though 😛

    3. Well to me if you could improve referring to my previous comment then it would be nice. I wouldn’t want to ask you to do review on each and every new release that would come out later cause I know its quite hard for you to do review and focus on your work and family at the same time.

Your blog is probably one of the rarest talkative review blog that I’ve followed that does not suddenly went on a hiatus without any notice. Keep up the good work syd, you’ve been great 🙂

  174. kevin Liew says:

    1) Firstly, when I have doubts and before I choose on what gunpla I decide on , I immediately turn to gaijin-gunpla. Basically what I really like about this site is the huge range of reviews I am able to read up on and educate myself on the particular gunpla kit I’m interested in. Therefore , I really love the site’s reviews.
    2) Secondly , I don’t really see anything wrong with the site so I’ll just squeeze out something to say about what’s really bad about this site . Well I guess the only thing bad would be the messy home page. No offense ^.^”
3)Lastly , I feel that the improvement I hope to see is more tutorials and guides to help modellers out there by clearing their doubts on how to do certain techniques and skills.

  175. Liberta Modifica says:

Everyone just goes on praising mode here, although I like that they acknowledge the flaws as well. 184 comments and almost all of them are entries for the contests -,-

Good luck on your move Syd. I’m sorry you can’t keep everything, saying farewell to a Gunpla that you spent so much time to is a bit heartbreaking, although they’ll probably find a new and better home that will love them fully. Oh wait, that’s on the GunplaTV one. This one’s are things you’ve never built… well… they probably will still get a better home of someone who’s going to build them.

  176. BAP says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
My favorite things are the detailed builds and reviews. Both of those provide a wonderful amount of information that I use to make informed purchasing decisions. I can’t afford everything out there so having that information makes me feel more confident that my money is going toward something I will enjoy. My second favorite is the perspective you provide on Japanese life (especially since it is from a Westerners viewpoint). I find it truly fascinating to learn about the differences and similarities between our cultures.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Not enough updates 🙂 In truth my only gripe is the difficulty in viewing older posts. While I do come to the site on a regular basis there are times that I can’t visit for a couple of weeks. When I come back it is very difficult to find what postings I missed that aren’t on the main page.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
In relation to number 2, I would like there to be a link at the end of each segment (Posts, Reader Submissions, Reviews, Galleries, etc…) to view older posts. I would also like even more information about Japanese life. Even the most mundane things can be interesting because it illustrates our differences and/or similarities. As an example, I was shocked when you told us that 7-11 didn’t sell Slurpees in Japan (blasphemy!). If I had a dream wish for something new I would love to have manual translations. I’m not talking about the build instructions, as those can be found elsewhere, but the mechanical and story information that is usually printed in the front and/or middle of the manuals. I know it would be a lot of work (which is why it is a dream wish) but it would be a unique addition, and drive additional traffic ;), as no one else is doing it that I am aware of.

  177. Appasionata says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

The fact that most of the content here feels real and relatable, not detached. It really just feels like another modeller relating his experience to fellow colleagues which I think is the biggest pull of the work here. That, as well as the way the reviews of the kits are being presented.

I do like the creativity of the idea of some builds thats been done here. While sometimes they dont quite turn out the way they’re expected to, I think the shear originality of some of the content is an interesting feature.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Most people have commented about the lack of posts, I do echo this but I guess I understand the reasons behind it. As I previously commented on how I like the custom builds thats been done here, I feel like there should be more on the site. While I understand that its a time consuming process, I personally enjoy going through custom work and its one aspect that could be improved here.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

More frequent guest/featured builds! it would be pretty cool if you featured more non-gunpla stuff as well.

  178. Shaun says:

    1) i love the large amount of reviews on a wide variety of suit design and the WIP threads
    2) like everyone else i would like more updates, but i can understand why they take time
    3) i would love more custom work and/or WIP’s , maybe a section about cool stuff around japan, things us outsiders don’t get to see that would be cool imo

  179. John says:

    1. What I like about this site
The content is great. You go into detail in how the gunpla is, from articulation to colours, everything is here. Then you show off your custom builds which actually got me on the custom building hype. Also your painting tutorial and scribing tutorial helped me out a lot. For a noob like myself it’s nice to see a website like this to be handy.
    2. What I don’t like about this site.
I only have two gripes. One is that you don’t post enough but when you do, it’s pleasing, and two is the rating on the MG 00 QAN[T], weren’t you a bit harah on some of the points?
    3. Improvements?
There isn’t really much else to say, you cover most of the basics and even intermediate and even difficult tutorials and you show the right gunpla to people who are uncertain with what they’ll build. I just wish you can post more, and I can absolutely understand the sparse amount of reviews you have, although very detailed
    :3

  180. Nick says:

    1) I really like the fact that you do WIPs and highlight various cool or annoying things about new kits and how you actually incorporate these ideas into the final review of the kit.
Speaking of the reviews I love how you rate them on such a variety of different points rather than just the standard “articulation is good… has no stickers… has three different guns… thumbs up”

    2) I find it a little tricky to navigate at times and feel that the navigation on the front page can be a bit busy. Also, I find it a bit annoying that there are all of these kits that you’ve done WIPs for (mainly HGs) and there aren’t final reviews on them at the end (the final thoughts are quite nice but not quite the same as a full blown reivew).

    3) I reckon what you have is really good at the moment but as mentioned I reckon that there could be a bit more order to the home page, where maybe the recent feed of updates was a larger focus along with the reviews as that will be what most people come to see.
Also what may be good is if the builds were linked at the start of the review (as not everyone follows the builds) and then referenced it with links to explain some of the build design pros/cons.

  181. Jeremy says:

    1) I like the formatting for the reviews, very clearcut and organized.
2)I wish that you had more reviews of different kits.
3)I would like to see a larger variety of kits, mainly include cheaper kits.

  182. asukashin8 says:

Hi syd have been an avid visitor of ur reviews but well im a modeller at heart so blogging and posting isn’t really my thing, but this is my first post here ^^
    1. I really like how you are un-biased in your gunpla choices whereas i see far too many timeline elitists in our hobby nowadays.
    2. The only thing i don’t like is that you could go back and finish of your reviewed kits that you straight build so it shows off your building skills!
    3. I’d like to see you review some other kits other than gundam too like the macross kits for example.

  183. meow says:

    1. your site is full-package. review, WIP’s, your finished builds gallery. your oob review is very detailed, neat, and easy to understand, and simply is one of the best out there.
    2. the delta plus review. i know it’s your personal review. you have full right to be subjective, but still.. the fact that it can’t stand on its own two feet is a notable downfall, but i think you overdid the scoring on that one.
    3. more tutorials on how you do your builds. that would help a lot, especially beginners, like me who are willing to learn

  184. Lem says:

1.)What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – What I like about Gaijin Gunpla is the in depth review with a mix of some humor. Because picture-only reviews don’t do justice to a model kit, having non-biased opinions on a model kit from you is really good. I really like how you rate a model in some areas, overall look, articulation, fun rating, extras/accessories, I think That has a real huge impact on everyone who is eyeing on that specific kit.

2.)What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    – Down time/ DNS error, I get sad when I can’t access your site, There might be new reviews that I missed. lol. But that’s my only complain, Your website is simple, easy to navigate and doesn’t have some eyesore background 🙂

3.) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
    – More gunpla reviews, faster updates on WIPs maybe? But I know it is too much to ask, you still have your life outside the gunpla world.
But if if you do have time can you add a tutorials section/ tools section? I’m a newbie and just a snap builder,I was and still really amused on your Sinanju Yellow bird, hope someday I can do something like that. More power Syd, hope to see more from your works! 🙂

  185. Douglas says:

    1) I like the commentary on life in Japan as well as your WIP’s. Your reviews are also very insightful with the grading system.
    2) I’m not as interested in the build section as I am in the review/critique of the model kit.
    3) Less focus on build and more focus on pros/cons of a model kit.

Good luck with the move! I’m in the process of moving as well and it can get quite chaotic!

  186. Tony says:

Hope the moving process is going smoothly Syd!

    1) I like that you don’t have a bias from being a Gundam series fan. You call the kits for their qualities as stand alone items (see the Tallgeese review… you managed to not be totally swooning over a kit most of us went bonkers about). I think you have a pretty solid visual presentation of builds and reviews, and I like that I don’t have to sit through video reviews when I can usually just read yours faster than watching a video.

    2) Don’t like? Hmmm… I guess it would be nice to see HG reviews come back. I seem to recall you saying at some point, somewhere that you stopped doing them because HGs aren’t really your thing, which is a fair opinion. Also, it might be cool to maybe do a monthly or bi-monthly review of some older kits, maybe looking at the lead suit kits from the past (like your Wing/Ver.Ka/Zero/Proto Zero review, just not necessarily all at once, wouldn’t expect that craziness again).

    3) I guess I kind of answered this in the previous question’s response… so I don’t really have anything to put here. Thanks for being my favorite Gunpla site, and best of luck with everything.

  187. Charles M says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I LOVE the reviews on here. The breakdown, photos, wip bits, all make for some excellent reviews of anyone in the english speaking Gunpla Community.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

The infrequency of posts. I completely understand why things are infrequent but it is what I dislike the most.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

A better mobile (e.g. Phone/Tablet) website. I often have 15-20min to kill at a time and I’ll pull up gunpla sites/blogs on my phone and nothing is worse than having to use menu/navigation options which don’t work properly on a mobile device. Especially when you know how to get to the content you want to read.

  188. Rhorin says:

1.) I love the reviews. It answers alot of the questions i have in a kit
2.) few and far between reviews
    3.) more reviews and tutorials

  189. Lee says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The clean, nicely taken hi-res pictures and structured honest review of Gunpla kits.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Many kits are still not covered.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
One master review & scoring by Gaijin Gunpla and then invite other Gunpla fans to also review and rate under the same structure. In that manner, we have a Gaijin Score and at the same time Fans’ Score for the same kit. This will help others to decide whether this kit is really for them or not taking into consideration Gaijin’s Score and Fans’ Score at the same time.

  190. Maurice says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Obviously it would be the reviews, but one of the things I really appreciate is that you show the models in their OOB builds instead of all painted and marked up. (for reviews) This gives a more accurate image of how a suit would look like when built by someone without the access to the tools that many other reviewers use.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
One of the the only things I dislike about this website is the length of time that goes between reviews. I’m sure as many other people said this cannot be helped but that is really the only thing there is for me.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I think one thing that would be nice to see are some tutorials on how to do some of the things you worked on, such as painting, kitbashing, etc.

  191. Anthony says:

    1) I love your honest reviews. I find myself laughing at your articulation poses often. These reviews honestly help me pick out which gundam I want to purchase next and the photos are definitely an inspiration to what poses I choose to stick my Gundams in.

    2) Not enough reviews, but that’s mainly because they’re so good that I go through them fast

    3) It would be pretty cool if you added in a section where users can submit their own photos of builds to pages. For example if I also build a 1/144 Aile Strike, I could submit pictures of my build and if you like them enough you can post it in a “User submitted photo” section in your reviews

  192. Ville says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Everything.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Slow update intervals.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
More gundam pictures with cats. And cats in gunpla boxes.

  193. chonghin says:

    1) I like your honest review on new gundam kit. You normally hilite the kit assembly/design problem and provide recommendation on solution. I like your grading system too, and it is my guidance.

    2) With all respect, I think the paint job finishing is definitely need more improvement there. In some photos, evidently showing kit was filled with dirt, or tilted decal, and this is an expression of not appreciate the kit.

3)So far, your blog on gunpla review is the best, to me. If really push the envelope for more improvement, I would say take more professional photos on model kit. High quality photo will show your appreciation on your work.

  194. Aaron says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    The detailed reviews and pictures.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Needs more content.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
Probably find people to partner up with, to increase the content of the site. Like partnering up with a builder, and you do the showcasing and review. (doesn’t have to be professionally built, just out of box is fine)

  195. WK says:

    1. The reviews of the kits are very detailed and pointing out some issues that can help decide what kit i would want to buy

2.Long posting time and some kits were not reviewed even though they are finished.

    3. More tutorials and more HG kits reviews

  196. LCHL says:

Hi Syd, hope the move is going well. I’ve been following you since your blogger days but don’t really comment much. You’ve been doing a great job though so keep it up!!

    1) Of course the best thing about the site is the reviews and WIP – it’s concise and honest with a little bit of humour added to the mixed. It’s also great that you give tips on mods that may benefit the model kit such as the brass rod mod for the Nu ver. Ka fin funnels.
The website is clearly laid out and the colour scheme is very nice so not much to change in this department.

    2) I would say lack of updates but I actually find that there was a time before your recent life changes when you were posting almost once or twice a week so I’m going to guessing when life settles down it will be back to this routine?
Anyway, I guess the thing I do miss is some HG work, granted I know MG kits are much better in almost every department e.g articulation, detailing etc. but I feel our 1/144 readers are missing out on your reviews of those kits.

    3) As mentioned, the thing I dislike is the lack of HG reviews nowadays so I would love for that to improve. Also, it would be nice to see some other brand models to be reviewed such as those from kotobukiya or just some cool non-gunpla kits. I think you did do a review on one of the macross kits and that was pretty cool so more of these would be nice. Maybe kits from the SRW line of the Z.O.E model kits by kotobukiya? Just a thought.
Also I think it can be a good idea to link back to WIP posts at the end of your reviews as sometimes I haven’t had time to follow a build and therefore had skipped a post (or a few!) and jumped straight to the review even though I like reading the the WIP too as I get a feel of what to expect if I were to build the kit later.

Good luck Syd and keep up the good work!!

  197. Drew says:

    1. Your kit reviews, some of my purchases are largely influenced by them. And SNSD :p

    2. Not much HG reviews, hoping to see more of them.

    3. Maybe I would like to see some tutorials 🙂

All the best to you and your family Syd 🙂

  198. Kushal says:

Contest aside, I’m glad to have the opportunity to give back in a way to one of my favorite sites.
    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
Your reviews and step-by-step builds are second-to-none in the gunpla community for the kind of things I’m looking for. I have very little money to spend on kits (fully half of my kits are gifts from loved ones who understand this) so I always thoroughly research my kits before I buy one. When I was trying to decide between the OVA and Ver. Ka edition Unicorn MG (I enjoy making MGs so much I’m willing to spend a little more time saving up for kits just for the added complexity and build quality), I went on a lot of different sites and none of them had the same approach to reviewing that you had. I love that you factor things like build design and colors into your kit reviews. I especially love that you review the kit before doing any kind of modifications, even panel lining or painting. You have a very critical eye for sloppy or lazy design, but also a very appreciative one for the little things that really add to the feel you get when making an MG (I’ve never made an RG but it seems to apply there as well) as opposed to a HG or the no-grades that got me into gunpla. In fact, I would go so far as to call you my favorite reviewer, because you have a very unbiased way of looking at things, very factual and logical but still quite easy and interesting to read. You cover a lot of important topics regarding quality, value, and fun, without nitpicking or giving too much credence to personal preference. And that’s awesome.
    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
In all honesty, while I love your style of writing and the way you express yourself, I don’t read much on this site other than the kit reviews because of how things are organized. Additionally, the fact that WIPs are broken into several different posts in reverse chronological order makes it kind of a pain to go through the backlog. I guess the main page is a little too busy? The “Recent comments” section isn’t super useful, and the columns sometimes seem to blend into each other.
    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?
I’m sure everyone has mentioned more updates or more reviews, but more specifically I would love to see two things:
    1. Reviews/tutorials on gunpla tools (for example, paint markers vs. liquid paint). Not necessarily tutorials, but I’m sure you have a wealth of information through experience for that sort of thing, and you do bring it up in some of your custom WIP posts, but it’d be cool to see them in a standalone format.
    2. More general reviews/thoughts on things, which you kind of hinted at with the newest Girls Generation post, going into how you liked it and why. You have a gift for that kind of analysis and it’d be great to see more of it from you.

Thank you for everything and good luck with your move!

  199. Sean Loke says:

Hi! Syd. I was plesantly surprise that my comment was featured in GunplaTV…cool! Anyway, best of luck to you on your upcoming MOVING HOUSE. U gotta very busy these couple of days. Here’s some of my views on your questions:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Thoroughness in elaborating the details on your Gunpla experience. I sense that you love your Gunpla very much. I started Gunpla for a year now and I do share some similar feelings when there’s something big and new from Bandai. The high anticipation and enjoyment of finishing a kit is also really satisfying.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

I was hoping that you may show more of your Gunpla skills and tips in video perhaps in youtube. GunplaTV really thought me a lot but with your presence it’ll certainly be an amazing reference for beginners like me. Perhaps a short tutorial or your works feature video of 5 minutes/week for a start will be great! Set it up with a turntable and voila u have a killer show! ^___^

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I luv the Gaijin Gunpla Score but it’ll be great to see viewers like us to also participate in reviewer score as a comparison.

Till then, I’ll be waiting for your next upcoming show.

  200. Mike P. says:

    Hello there!

I’ve recently been shopping for more gunlpa after purchasing a MG 00-Exia after years of not building one and came across this site which has gotten me more excited about building gunplas. You have given me the inspiration to start and once again collect gunpla and for that you have my gratitude.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
The nostalgia feeling that it has brought back for me.
The details, break-downs you give for each of the gunplars you review. The honest opinions you have for each one of them.

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
    Not enough SD Gundam.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

What I would like to see are the SD Gundams from the Chinese 3 Kingdom Eras. A lot of these SD Gundams though easy to put together and lack articulations, the decore for these are quite nice to look at. The imagination they put into these SD Gundams are quite awesome.

  201. Tlim says:

    Hello Syd,

    1) First of all, I really like the detailed reviews showing the build of your kits. The photos taken are of quality as well.

    2) So far I haven’t encounter anything I dislike yet 😀

    3) I will be much happier if you can include video reviews too but I think that will be too much work. And whenever if you are reviewing something, it will be helpful to include some warnings to us for things that break easily or can be cut off easily. Lastly, it will be great if you can tell us how you modify your kits :p That’s all I can think of for now.

Hope your moving to your new home will go well 😀

  202. Kevin Nguyen says:

    1) I really like how your reviews are really detailed and informative. I recently just started building and read your reviews to get an idea of what I would like to build.
    2) I wish there were more some more reviews. Either I couldn’t find it or you didn’t have reviews for some gunpla I was looking for but I understand it’s hard and that you have other responsibilities.
    3) I would make things a little easier to find/organized but maybe it’s just because I haven’t learned how to navigate the website yet haha. Adding video reviews would also be a great idea

  203. dencio says:

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Good Quality Photos and very detailed and honest opinion on each review

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

Nothing really but i hope you have more reviews for HG kits.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

Separate section for tutorials on no paint builds and even customizing your Gunpla

  204. MS says:

Greetings! This is my first post, but I’ve been following this site for a while, since about the time you were doing your Courage Strike Freedom Perfect Grade. Since there’s some overlap here with other comments, just consider my answers an extra vote for those ideas:

    1) I really enjoy your detailed work in progress posts. As others have noted, they are almost as entertaining as actually building a kit myself.

    2) I can’t recall anything that has stuck out to me as a major flaw in the design of the site. It’s all pretty easy to navigate.

    3) One idea for a nice addition to the website might be more posts about your travels in Japan? More tutorial info is always interesting and welcome, too.

Good luck moving into the new home!

  205. RPAji says:

Congrats (or should I say Good luck?) on moving Syd!
    1. What I really like about your website is the very nice way of your reviews! It’s funny, it’s comprehensive, and really sometimes when I get to the kit that is already reviewed by you, I can’t help but feeling familiar! And that is really helpful in preventing breaking fragile parts or dealing with special build instruction. Thank you!
    2. I don’t really havr anything I dislike, but opposite to what everybody said, actually sometimes when you do a lot of update, I become confused to track my last post. The layout of your website make it hard for me to search post based on timeline, so to go to number…
    3. I’d love to have a timeline of your post so that I could track my progress in reading your posts.

So that’s it, thanks you for always reaching out!

  206. Wanderer00 says:

    1. My favorite thing on the the site is your work in progress builds. Seeing how everything goes together and hearing your input on the build is fantastic. I really enjoy hearing your opinions on new kits.
    2. The update times can be unbearable. Especially when a new RG or MG comes out but it’s now that big of a deal.
    3. I’d love to see more kits being reviewed or built. Maybe some older MG’s or HG’s.

Best of luck with the move Syd!

  207. Stephen says:

    1. What I like…
    – It would be that this site is one of the first sites to feature a newly released kit with the actual runners previewed. 🙂 others just display the already built newly released kit for the review. And SoNyeoShiDae (Girls Generation) of course. <3

    2. What I don't like…
    – Hmm… Would be that I recently just discovered this site.

    3. What I would like to see…
    – Your pursuit of martial arts, maybe? Also, some plugging of your blog so that others may know of it as well. 🙂

  208. Wanderer 00 says:

    1. I really enjoy getting to see a step by step build of new kits. You’re my go to place for reviews of kits and just to see how a kit goes together.
    2. The wait can be unbearable at times. Especially after a new MG or RG release. Buts it’s not a big deal.
    3. I’d love to see more HG reviews and maybe some older MG’s too.
Best of luck with the move Syd!

  209. Stephen says:

    1. What I like…
    – it would be the way you do your reviews, adding your personal touch on what you think about the kit, and SNSD/Girls Generation, because I’m a fan too.

    2. What I don’t like…
    – Maybe that feeling of not knowing this blog before or earlier.

    3. What I would like to see…
    – Your pursuit of martial arts and of course more kit reviews showing the runners before they were assembled.

  210. StephRuss says:

1.) I like this site because it rekindled my passion for building models in general. As I got older, I distanced myself from a lot of my “childish” passions. Everyone’s excitement here reminded me of why I loved building gunpla and ultimately led to me rebooting my hobby.

2.) The only thing I don’t like is just the frequency of updates. I understand update frequency is limited by how often a new model/news gets released and the fact that you have a life outside of this site.

3.) Greater community interaction would be nice to see. This would satisfy my itch during dry spells. I know there are lots of gunpla forum on the interwebs, but I like the people who visit this site. Everyone is so damn cordial here.

  211. Brian Ver. Kanada says:

    Hi Syd;
I hope your new house comes with your own Gunpla universe/room!
1)I like your grading system along with the critical assessments, especially about where Bandai’s instructions are not clear. Also, that you point out any assembly problems that exist and how to fix them.
2)Whats not to like. Okay, some of the puns are painful but, the site does exactly what it says; Gunpla by a gaijin.
3)I would not mind seeing some more Gentei kits built just to see what they really look like. Also, some more Life in Japan posts. I am always interested in how foreigners cope with everyday life in Japan and some of the legal or bureaucratic problems and other challenges that come up (like, for example, moving house). Maybe add some more J-music you like; Is it all girl bands? And of course, more free give-aways would make this the best site on the internets.

  212. Agassi says:

Hi, how are you? I hope you do well in house moving process.
I didn’t really check your website much, but if there is new gunpla release, usually I would check your opinion in your great review.

Don’t really care about “giving away” prize, but I just want to type inputs for your website, 🙂
My apologize if my answers give any offense to you.

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I like how you did your reviews on gunplas (old or new). The “final verdict” graphic bars definitely show the conclusions of the review, and it is great.

The photos are great, wish there will be more to show the “maximum articulation photos” for every gunpla (I don’t see many in MG saz ver ka, and few others)

Website layout is also great, keep it up. 🙂

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?
I’ll be frank, I don’t like how you give the personal scores (and hate) in the reviews without any research or reference from other gunpla reviews.

for example: like you did on MG delta plus review.
    http://www.gaijin-gunpla.com/2011/08/mg-delta-plus-review-55-7/

The whole review thing is about “OOOH, IT CAN’T STAND UP !!!”, 🙁
Japanese reviewer, Schizoponic, was able to make it STAND firm and seems no problem whatsoever (other than lack of accesories)
    ref link: http://schizophonic9.com/re/mg_deltaplus_p.html

I myself can pose my delta plus to stand in one foot no problem at all.
    ref picture: http://i58.tinypic.com/htfjon.jpg

Well this is just one of the case, maybe next time you can put reference to other reviewers who do have the same problem in building or posing the gunpla model for better review content credibility.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

I would like to see your review section to be improved (like what i just typed “what i like” and “what i don’t like”)

Your WIP photos quite great, but since I am much for a gunpla modeler, I didn’t really understand about it.

Thank you for reading this post.

    Regards

  213. Exiarepair says:

    1)What I Like
I like your grading system because i could know the pros and cons of the kit and make me having an easier time to decide which kit i should get.

    2)What i don’t like
So far there’s nothing that i don’t like about “Gaijin Gunpla”.

3)What changes i want to see
I think you should review more HG from Gundam 00 ,especially MS from Season 2

    Good luck with your move,Syd.

  214. Benjbcl says:

Hey Syd! Good luck with the move!

    1. I like the early previews of models and builds! and the very comprehensive images and descriptions of any possibly tricky bits or interesting bits of a build! REALLY USEFUL!

    2. Nothing in particular, I fully understand the limit on time to put into this and very frequent posting. But the posts you do put on are very professional and have clearly had plenty of time put into them!

    3. As RPAji mentioned, would be nice to have a continual timeline to be able to catch up on things chronologically.

Anyway, cheers so much for all your hard work and for the cool videos and early reviews and builds!

    1) What do you like about Gaijin Gunpla?

-The great site layout, everthing is easy to navigate
    -Early Preview of some kits
    -Fair Reviews

    2) What do you not like about Gaijin Gunpla?

-I begin to notice that some of your reviews are getting really biased in some way. It’s really annoying sometimes. Especially when it
comes to MG Reviews. There is almost no review that you didn’t compare an MG to the majestic details of RGs that you like so much.
It’s like comparing apples and oranges. I know you love RGs but it’s really unfair if you use the RGs as comparison to MGs, such as seen
on your reviews of the MG Aile Strike Remaster and the MG Build Gundam Mark II. Bringing down the score of the MG just because it doesn’t look like the RG
isn’t really fair in my opinion. RG’s details are pretty much their own thing and will probably never move to MGs (The RX-78-2 3.0 is an exception since
that kit is only a representation of Bandai’s current engineering in 1/100 scale). Let’s face it, if MGs start to look like RGs, then what’s the point of
having them in the first place? Might as well kill the Real Grade line since people will prefer 1/100s anyway.

Sorry, but I really had to get that off my chest. It’s the only one thing I don’t like from the site.

    3) What changes (additional features/segments/things removed/anything) would you like to see on Gaijin Gunpla?

-A tutorial page would be nice
-Just remove the bias in reviews. It can be very misleading for some readers.

    Take care. 🙂

Sad to see that you can’t take all your gunpla and merchandise with you to your new place, but great for whoever is lucky enough to win your giveaway.
    1. What I like about Gaijin-Gunpa
I love that you take ALOT of photos of your completed kits, and how in depth you go into the building process. I also like how you express your thoughts and opinions on the kits honestly, not holding back on what you feel is disappointing even if I and others may sometimes disagree with you.
    2. What I don’t like
I’m not a fan of having a set of numerical values averaged to give a final review score. I feel that there are many attributes and qualities to things like Gunpla that just can’t be given a number value out of ten, and that the best kits are greater than the sum of their parts.
    3. What changes I want to see
A list of what you feel are pros/cons at the end of reviews, even a short one, can better inform a reader whether or not a kit is good for them than a number percentage score.

Anyways, good luck with your moving. Just know that I love that an English language site like yours is here, as well as your work with HLJ and hobbylink.tv, for when I want to learn more about Gunpla.
