I woke up today very excited. Excited because today was the expected release date of the 1/100 MG Nu Gundam Ver Ka! I’ve already written quite a bit about my thoughts on the Nu Gundam after viewing it at the Hobby Shows and whatnot but now that it’s finally here I can dive in and find out if all the hype (from myself included) is warranted.
Even though the box art found on Ver. Ka Master Grade kits are very subdued compared to the action pose artwork on regular releases, there’s no denying that the box cover is really good and really gets your blood pumping.
Fin Funnel action!
No Fin Funnel action!
Lots of stuff here. The frame runners are two per plastic bag and some of the other bags contain three runners! Here are some items found in the box that are worthy of mention here.
Like the MG Hi Nu Gundam the Nu Gundam Ver Ka comes with a stand on which you can pose that massive machine. You can also position the Fin Funnels on the stand for more dynamic poses and photographs.
As you can see the support and Fin Funnel attachments are all clear!
Here is the hand runner. Looks like a PG hand doesn’t it?
The sizes for some of these pieces are monstrous. Just look at that shield!
I’ve seen this in person twice but it feels even bigger when you have it in your hands.
Here is the big frame runner containing pieces for the torso, skirt, head, etc. It’s so big that it fits in the box lengthwise because it’s too long to go in like the other runners. It is also flexible.
There is one small polycap runner for this kit.
A brief look at the instruction manual shows that some of these are used to connect the torso to the skirt and other major, heavy joints. Perhaps the breakage problem with the MG Sinanju’s skirt frame led Bandai to rethink their design for the Nu. You can also see the green, psycho frame parts and the huge, curved Beam Sabers.
And last and the most plentiful…
Decals! Waterslide decals! I’m currently in the middle of decaling another MG but I’ll put that aside so I can focus all my attention on the Nu.
But there’s also foil stickers, and lots of them!
Looking good. Love the Katoki head on this guy. Opening up the manual gets you all the Ver. Ka manual eye candy.
And here’s Nu Gundam dunking a basketball…
With all those decals check out the two page decal instructions.
As a throw in with the Nu here’s an advertisement for the Master Grade book that came out a few months back titled, The ISM of Gundam.
Tonight. Tonight. Just two more hours of work.
