Gaijin Gunpla

Last friday I took half a day off of work in order to head down to Tokyo and meet my wife and daughter as their ferry arrived from Chichijima. So my house is once again filled with laughter and the tantrums of a five year old who doesn’t get to do whatever she wants like she does at grandma and grandpa’s house. Heh. With the daughter just back my time was quite occupied the last couple of days but I found myself wanting to build something. I needed something simple, like an Out-of-the-Box build. Luckily for me this arrived from a friend a couple days before.

Master Grade RX-78-2 Real Type Color!

I had noticed this on Bandai’s Premium web shop some time ago and regretted not picking one up. I guess my friends know me really well because one of them sent one my way.

I really dig these colors on the RX-78-2 as evidenced by my RG version and apparently I must like the MG version 2.0 of the RX-78-2 because I’ve built three versions so far. 1, 2, 3. If you count the failed GM ver 2.0 project then I’ve built this frame four times already! It’s actually a great kit and fun to build so I am not complaining. Especially when it’s the Real Type Color.

Inside the box is the same RX-78-2 Ver 2.0 manual along with some additions for the Real Type Color.

It even comes with waterslide decals!

Here are the runners that came in colors different than the previous RX-78-2.

I should mention that I opened up this kit in the middle of the day when the light coming through the windows is bright enough to take pictures but not bright enough to match the lighting I get during the evening from my big living room lights. As such these pictures are kind of dark. My apologies.

I wanted to get pictures of the colors for the grey and green runners but they didn’t turn out how I wanted. I didn’t realize this until I looked at them later. Oh well, you get the idea.

So while my daughter went outside to ride bikes with her friends whom she hadn’t seen in three weeks, I poked around on the kit. The colors are great as they are, of course, so I didn’t plan on using paint but I did decide I wanted to add some details and such so I actually played around with Gundam Markers, something I haven’t done for some time.

And though I said I wouldn’t use paint I already have. But I’ll show that later.

    Looks nice so far

  2. Hi Sid, one question… what do you prefer between this model kits:

    1) RX-78-2 ver 2.0
    2) RX-78-2 ver 3.0
    3) RX-78-2 ver OYW

I’m not sure what to get… i like the anime style of 2.0, but the 3.0 look great but kind of loose, and the OYW is like in between of both…
