Gaijin Gunpla

I first became aware of another wave of limited edition 7-11 themed Gunpla in the last issue of Hobby Japan magazine but no date was listed for release. This past thursday I received a text from ASM with only the words “7-11 Gundam out tommorrow” in the message. Well, Friday the 23rd being a holiday in Japan I stayed out longer than I normally do at the dojo on thursday nights and when I returned to my home station at around midnight I hit a 7-11 and they were just putting these on the shelves.

Score!

The 7-11 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. G30th is the standard HG just in the 7-11 color scheme but there is an..err… addition.

Here is the box contents. Yup, HG kit it is.

Unlike other limited edition variants Bandai has actually redone the manual using images of this kit.

Here are the markings and the marking guide.

I’m not going to show any of the build but I will show the one part that makes this kit different. For the shield Bandai has one large sticker but that sticker wouldn’t work with the standard kit. What Bandai has done is give you a new, very small, runner.

You can see they give you a white piece to replace the orange one.

This new piece sits flush with the rest of the shield’s surface so that the sticker can be applied.

Here he is completed before the markings.

This guy could use some panel lining.

After the markings were applied I noticed there was one marking left over. As there was no indication on the marking guide for this sticker I opted to do ma own thang.

First I cut it into different sections.

I put the 7-11 logo on the leg.

And another part of that marking went on the backpack.

That one addition I mentioned earlier?

7-11 Gundam comes with a 7-11 standard.

As ASM and I were hunting for these this weekend I realized once again just how fortunate I am to live where I do and have access to these kind of Gunpla goodies. Many people around the world pay a small fortune just for a standard kit. Well, I thought I would share the wealth (that’s just an expression. I am not wealthy.) and so I will be giving away one of these 7-11 Gundams in a contest which will be announced here on gaijin-gunpla.com on October 1st. You have a chance to get this limited edition kit for yourself!

I have to admit, I came really really late getting my hands on this kit. Thanks for the review. Unlike yours, mind doesn’t come with the extra pole and the white shield sticker. I would say this kit comes with really nice detailed panel lines. But some of them are really shallow. Anyway, hopefully it will turn out alright.
    Thanks.
